DeltaBluez Tess
I just ran the numbers and Scott is sitting at 26 (tie) with a score of 118. Jenn, I want to come up too...so does Tess since she wants to see her adoptive father (Scott)...and I am the expert at *lollygagging* Diane
amc
113 for Tala, 118 for Scott. Yikes!
Shoofly
It looks like a tough time of day to be running. Is anyone hearing what the sheep are like? Are dogs having trouble moving them, gripping, what?
Jennifer Glen
I wouldn't say it was a tough time of day. Bob Stevens ran just before Scott with a 131 (or there abouts) with a young dog that is only in it's first year in open. Scott won't make it to the semi finals with Pleat 'cause there is still over 80 dogs to run and he's already dropped below dog 25. Well, he still has the nursery class... Jenny Glen PS Scott said yesterday that the sheep were tough. Today I heard from Janna that Scott's sheep didn't want to move, but with Pleat moving them, that doesn't sound right. I wonder if they were splitting off. I'm not likely to hear from Scott today so I'll ask him when he gets around to calling
Shoofly
It looked like it was a tough time to run yesterday, several RTs and DQs around then. I'm so sorry Scott won't be moving on. Is he not running a second dog in the Open?

Jennifer Glen
Yes, he's running Gwen but she hasn't been running well lately. She may be pregnant and he's only had her back from Jo for 3 weeks. He says she's a little sluggish. I don't hold out much hope. He's runninng little Sweep in the Nursery, and he's been running hot lately so maybe... Jenny Glen
Jennifer Glen
You know, it's not like I didn't warn him about the Meeker curse. I said I didn't want Meeker. I wanted him to come to the Canadian Championships that weekend. Jenny Glen
Shoofly
I'll keep my fingers crossed for him. It'll be a shame not having Pleat running though.

amc
Fun (or not so fun) facts: 83 dogs have run so far. 29 (35%) have letters instead of numbers. All of the top 7 and 8 of the top 10 scores so far came from yesterday, and the two from today ran early this morning. Analysis, anyone? amc
I would agree with you in general, Lana, but today's scores are overall much lower, with the retires and DQs sprinkled throughout the day (so far). I wonder if the wind is up today?
Jennifer Glen
I talked to Scott. He said that if you ran when the sun went behind a cloud, the sheep did not fight. However, if you ran when the sun was blazing down on them, they fought. Obviously, the sun was on his run but unfortunately the cloud cover moved over right after. Luck of the draw. He said this is why there are so many DQ and RT. He said alot of those dogs are not lifting but when the sun relaxed, so did the sheep and people had success. Pearse
This is Pearse reporting from Sturgis (actually from Rapid City airport waiting for Derek Scrimgeour's delayed an hour Northwest flight) The sheep were really really rough today. Any time a dog got near their heads, they turned and fought. It was taking, on average 7 minutes for the outrun, lift an fetch. The drive was also slow so anyone who made it around were at the pen with about two minutes for sheep that need about three and a half minutes to pen. There were two or three pens all day. Scott and Pleat, Alisdair and Star, and many many more all had tough goes. The sheep were gate shy. Dogs had to really work to get them through. After the drive away, they were breaking back towards the setout. It was a knock down drag out street brawl out there all day. Many legit grips and some out of sheer frustration. Some of the dogs seemed to be having problems hearing near the first set of drive panels, right when they needed to be really carefull on flanks. All in all, so far it has been a good trial but tough tough sheep. Pearse
blackacre
Thanks Pearse. Write more when you can. It's shaping up to be an odd one, isn't it? Reminds me of one of the recent Internationals, when no one could finish the course. Jenny, Scott's The Man no matter what. A

Sue R
Pearse - Thanks so much for the "live" coverage. It is so exciting to be able to hear about what's happening.
Jennifer Glen
Awww, Thanx Andrea and Terry. I'm really bummed out so that helps. Scott seems to be taking it ok tho. It realy is looking like the mornings are the best time to run. However, usually Scott can run at anytime of day and do ok. I'm putting all my good thoughts and energy towards Sweep's run in the Nursery. Everyone, chant along with me, "Don't bite the bad sheep. Don't bite the bad sheep - keep your cool-keep your cool." Scott agree's with me that this is going to be the nursery of all nurseries. There are so many awsome young dogs running. This would realy be one to watch.
