The Bluegrass Classic SDT May 15-19 2019 Lexington KY

Recommended Posts

The Bluegrass Classic SDT will soon be upon us, May 15-19, held in lovely Masterson Station Park, Lexington KY. One of North America's oldest and most prestigious stockdog trials, the Bluegrass features two two-day USBCHA-sanctioned Open trials with 130 entries each; four USBCHA-sanctioned Nursery classes; two Open Ranch classes; two Pro-Novice classes; and two Novice classes. The Open classes are run on the main field, with the other classes running on a second field within a very short walking distance.

The Bluegrass culminates in Sunday's Double-Lift, International-Shed Final, where the top 20 teams (determined by combined scores from Open 1 and Open 2) vie for the honor of being the Bluegrass Classic SDT Champion.

The working Border Collie is arguably the world's most intelligent dog, and they can be seen in action with their handlers, trying to outsmart and outmaneuver the wily Montana range sheep brought in just for this purpose.

You can be a part of the Bluegrass Classic SDT by being a volunteer (no experience is necessary for many jobs, just a willingness to help) or by being a sponsor for a class, ribbons, or trophies, or purchasing an ad in our program. A program ad is a wonderful way to acknowledge or memorialize a mentor, a favorite dog, or a friend, or just to support this celebration of an age-old partnership of dog and handler.

Our website is www.bluegrassclassicsdt.com where you can access all necessary information, the volunteer sign-up form, the sponsorship/ad form, whatever else you might need to know to be a part of this pinnacle of stockdog trialing in North America.

The Bluegrass is free and open to the public in a beautiful park. Well-mannered dogs (on leash) are permitted (there is a large dog park adjacent). You can spread a blanket on the grass, bring your own comfy chair, or use the bleachers. There are a variety of vendors, including one or more (depending on the day) food choices on site.

And, as a bonus, the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival is held at Masterson Station Park on the Saturday (9-5) and Sunday (10-4) of the trial. It is just a short walk up the driveway and there is a small fee to enter, and it is well worth the visit to see the animals, the exhibits, the artistry, and the vendors.

The merchandise is now all on the website, as well, and comes in a wide variety of items featuring the fantastic artwork of Phil DeAngelo (www.philipdeangeloart.com) of Asheville NC.

For sale are women's vee-neck tees in eye-popping pink and blue; unisex tees in gray; a unisex cool-dry long sleeve in gray two-tone; women's boyfriend crew sweat in gray; a unisex full-zip moisture-wicking jacket in gray; low-rise adult caps in gray or sienna (Texas orange); adult dri-duck caps in stone (tan); and low-rise youth caps in burnt orange. The prices are very reasonable, the quality is great, and every sale helps support the Bluegrass.

These items can been seen and ordered at this webpage - https://www.bluegrassclassicsdt.com/2018-merchandise/

Dress for the weather. Bring water for your dogs. Plan on sitting on the provided bleachers or folding chairs (chairs under a tent) or bring a blanket. Mexican food vendor on site. Stay back at least five or six feet from fence.

Keep your dogs quiet and on leash, and don't be amazed if they "turn on"!

Prepare to be amazed! And many handlers are happy to answer questions if they are not engrossed. Come to the White House (my shed on wheels) for an informative free program. Enjoy supporting our vendors and out trial by finding merchandise you will enjoy.
