Gomer
Just got me a beautiful border collie i bought her for working with my sheep should she always sleep with the herd. A friend told that she should sleep with the sheep so she could be usted to them
Michael Parkey
Your friend is confusing herding breeds like border collies with livestock guardian dogs (LGD) like great Pyrenees. LGDs live with the stock they are supposed to protect, and it is important to start this when they are puppies so that they bond with the stock. Border collies are used to move and control stock, not guard them. It is not a good idea for border collies to be kept with sheep all the time. A bored, unsupervised, high energy border collie may decide to harass the sheep constantly, injuring or even killing them. Please do some reading or find a trainer to help you with your dog. Good luck!
