Strange behaviour?

Does anyone have experience with the following? My 8 month old has decided to trim the end of his tail. Up until last night he had a tuft of white hair at the end of his Black tail. He has chewed off the majority leaving a small patch of white at the very end only. There does not appear to be any irritation. Any ideas?

Has he been running through long grass or bushes?

Our boy literally started doing the same thing the other evening, actually leaving tufts of black fur on the floor from his tail. It turned out he had some of those sticky seed things he was trying to pull out.

Just checked his tail and can't find anything attached. Just gone to his bed for the night so will check again in the morning.

I had one that got bored in his crate about that age and chewed the tip of his tail also.  It took years to grow back correctly.  He had toys and other chews in there with him, but who can tell what goes through a puppy’s brain.

Fern was fascinated with her tail at that age, and would chase it and catch it like a toy. I haven't seen her do it in a while, so I think she aged out of it. But I wouldn't have been surprised if she also tried to chomp on it like a toy. Hopefully it'll grow back in correctly.
