Why does my border collie do this?

Recommended Posts

I rescued a border collie mix when he was about 5 years old. I’ve had him for 3 years now. He’s one of the laziest border collies known to man. He wants nothing to do with toys even though there is thousands laying around. He will walk 5 miles if I want too but doesn’t have too. Get him in a fence with a group of dogs and he will heard. Well every once in a while when I come home from work I notice that one of my shoes is moved into the center of the living room. It is not chewed on, just moved. He doesn’t do it all the time just occasionally. And recently not only did he move a shoe he also moved a pair of leggings. Again he didn’t chew just brought them into the center. another time he brought a dress I recently wore on to the guest bedrooms bed and I’m pretty sure laid on it. Is that a normal border collie tendency? And why does he do that? no other dog, border collie or otherwise has done this.

Cal likes to take my things and lay on or with them. Panda some something similar, but she just goes to where the things are. If I leave a worn shirt on the bed, Cal would take it and go to her favorite couch spot, but Panda would lay on it in its original place.

I think it's sweet, especially since neither does it with my husband's items. Just mine and occasionally the kids' clothing. Nothing is ever damaged or chewed, just laid on or relocated.

Lol! We had a beagle lab that would do this. Very similar personality from the sounds of it. When we came home from errands it would always be a laugh to see what had been taken to her bed.

We found frying pans, spectacles, library cards, coasters, flashlights, Tupperware, books - you name it and she took a fancy to it. With the exception of Tupperware it didn’t get chewed, just collected.

From a dog’s perspective they must watch us walk around the house, picking things up and putting them down on side tables near where we lounge. I guess if it’s good for us to do it’s good for a dog to do!

This is too funny. My Lenny hasn’t gone at extreme... yet. But for some reason he always fancies my right shoe and now my clothes. Nothing is ever chewed on just moved. And not even in a specific spot
