Mark Billadeau
They better clearly define dog trainer: “The bill would establish a Dog Trainer Board of Examiners which would administer the exam, enforce rules and regulations for the licenses and establish fees.” Can you see this board of examiners testing a stockdog or gundog trainer? D'Elle
This is far too vague, as Mark points out. And people would easily get around it by simply not calling themselves "dog trainer". "dog behavior modification specialist", and so on. Just as with places which regulate psychotherapists: people simply call themselves "life coachs" and other things.
Smalahundur
Oh, I am sure the biggest dog lobby group has that covered Mark. I mean the AKC is having no trouble organizing " instinct tests" for herding dogs, I assume they do something similar for gundogs. So am sure they will be able to assess trainers of these dogs without any qualms. No need to worry

Mark Billadeau
“Murphy said the idea for the bill came from a constituent who is a dog trainer and witnessed other trainers using controversial methods that focus on punishment.” Gundog trainers are likely watching this closely based upon their use of e-collars in training and how they are viewed.
