27th Occasional Highland SDT cancelled

Recommended Posts

Dear Friends,
I regret that poor health and uncertain sheep supply have ended sheepdog trials on our farm. Thanks to all those who helped put them on for so many years and to the handlers who honored us with their presence and their beautiful, unforgettable dogs.

So sorry to hear this, Donald. I was really looking forward to the next Highland Occasional -- your trials have always been exceptional, and they will be very much missed. Take care.

This makes me very sad. Donald's trials were always the best of what trials are all about: a beautiful location, challenging sheep, a wonderful host and hostess and their amazing volunteers, unforgettable hospitality and fellowship, giving back to the community. This trial will be sorely missed.

J.

I am so sorry to hear this, Donald, and particularly sorry that health issues play a role in ending a trial in one of the most beautiful locations on God's earth. I am simply grateful that I did have the opportunity to come and spectate even if it was only once, and have cherished memories of the wonderful trial, good people, fantastic dogs, each days runs surrounded by beauty, and marvelous starry nights to fall asleep under.

I'm very sorry to hear this, especially since it's largely a result of ill health.

The Occasional Highland was always on my bucket list. Sorry I was never able to make it.

I wish you and Anne well.

Hugs, Sheepdogging geezer

My friend, this weekend is our first trial at Kelly Hill.

We will think of you!

Thank you, that means a lot- it is just a unsanctioned training trial to get bugs worked out. But we will sanction the trials with USBCHA soon and had such fun setting it up.

Hugs

Never went to your trials, Donald, but enjoyed reading the accounts. Wishing you good health.

Awesome, Tea! Any trial done by you would have to be special!

Donald, I'm so sorry you won't be holding this again. I had a blast the one time I did attend (fall 2014), because I'd heard such great things of this trial (and also because I was able to stay with Priscilla and Bill). All good things must come to an end someday, I guess, but I'd sure have loved to have run a dog at your trial (still one level away from Open at this point).

It'll go down in legend, for sure!

Great to see you at the sheepdog clinic the other weekend, and it was fun to see how Jake was coming along - I hope you'll be able to continue making the trek up for these!

Donald McCaig,

I was truly looking forward to attending your trial someday, and to meeting you. You were the person who, inadvertently, got me involved in border collies herding sheep. I was interested in the sport of agility, in which border collies excel, and, an interest in border collies led to an interest in herding. Looking for information on border collies and herding on Amazon.com led to the books "Nop's Trials" and "Nop's Hope," both of which I loved, and both tore my heart out. I wanted you to meet Pete, my sweet and crazy boy, the border collie from Lakewood, Ohio. His parents are Winston and Salem, and that's all that I know of his pedigree, but I know that he has that strong instinct burning in his very being.

I hope that your health gets stronger with this Spring, and that you continue to write and love your dogs and your land.

Thank you,

Rachel Simpson
