juliepoudrier Posted June 22, 2014 Report Share Posted June 22, 2014 I think that the ability to do both well depends not only on the available time/money, but also on having a dog (and handler) with the talent to do both. You may consider yourself mediocre, Kristi, but it does take skill and effort to do well in both venues as you have done, and many people aren't as likely to devote the time, especially if they come from sport to stockdogs, mainly because they may find that although their dog is super in performance events, it may well not come close to being a superstar at stockdog work. Sometimes it can be very difficult to change from one training mindset to another, and if the humsn is struggling, the dog will likely be mostly confused. In the context of the OP, she will need to step outside of an obedience mindset (unless all she aspires to is AKC type herding) and get used to letting go, as it were.... J.
