Is this a smooth BC pup?

Recommended Posts

I think she may well have a good bit of border collie in her, but it's sure hard to tell from pictures of puppies. But I can tell that she's very cute! Who's the big dog in the third picture? I take it you may already have a border collie? If we could only ask her opinion!

:) Bless you for adopting her and helping her get healthy.

The other dog is a BC/Aussie mix. He is my disc, agility, and dock diving pup and goes just about everywhere with me. Thank you for your input, I know puppy pictures are hard to tell things from.

OMG, she's freakin' adorable (from another smooth tri fan)! As others have noted, it's difficult to say from a photo of a puppy, but there's nothing there that would make me go "hmmm...there's got to be something else mixed in." In other words, until she somehow proves to you she's not at least part border collie, I think you're safe considering her one.

Those ears are so going to stand, another of my fave things!

Do you guys think this pup has some BC in her? She is still pretty thin, but way healthier than she was a week ago. I hope she does because I would love to have found my next disc dog.

Adorable! She certainly looks like full BC or a high mix to me.

But really, what does it matter if she is BC (or part) or not? I am familiar with the physical requirements for a disc dog, and if you think she has the body type, size, agility, flexibility, jumping prowess, drive, etc. required for a serious disc dog, the breed shouldn't matter.

Beauty is as Beauty does. (or something like that)

Thank you everyone for your replies. It doesn't really matter If she is a BC, but I was curious because I couldn't believe I found such a nice puppy in a city shelter. She had been there over 30days when I adopted her. But if she is a BC, I can get her limited registry to take her to AKC/UKC agility trials in the future. She is a joy and I will keep the pictures coming as she grows. Thanks again all.

Oh my gosh how cute!!!! I'll second that she certainly looks to have quite a bit of BC in her, but I know from personal experience how hard it is to tell just what a pound puppy's background is. Rudder's blocky head made us think he had some lab in him when we got him at 8 weeks, but he's grown up to be all BC. I couldn't believe we found a purebred puppy in a shelter, but it does happen.

I am familiar with AKC agility, and you no longer need to send in a photo of your dog and have someone say "Yes, that could be a (breed)" and then send you paperwork to allow you to enter your dog. They have expanded the eligible dogs by allowing any mix to enter - regardless of phenotype. I am thinking that the same applies to disc?? I am not familiar with UKC.

Good Luck,

Jovi
