For history buffs

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I started a series of history related posts on my Stockdog Savvy blog that may be of interest to some of the history buffs on the boards. My latest post is about Sheepdogs in the Ohio Valley:

Herding Dogs in Colonial America:

As always,

Very nice article Jeanne. I loved it! I'm not a history buff at all but I very much enjoyed the article... Please keep us updated! whenever you post a new one...and I'll be sure to read up! :) Maybe make a trail of updates on this same thread so that way we can see the series sequentially as well.

Fascinating bit about NM dogs. As your neighbor to the south, I wonder what happened to them?

Their decline probably began with the Secularization of the Missions and continued as Anglo-American began to dominate the industry.

Yes, I think so. Just a little more low-key. There is a cool picture of an Altdeutsche Schäferhund (Old German Shepherd) leading a hog by the ear.

This isn't dog history, but I think some of you will enjoy reading about my mom at the La Prele ranch:
