alligande
How much fish oil do you give your dogs: I am using it for both their skin, and for the older dogs joint health. Thanks.
Liz P
The anti inflammatory dose is 100mg/lb of fish body oil (for joints, heart, kidneys, etc). The dose can be an average over long periods of time, so if you have a 35 lb dog but are using 1000 mg capsules you can alternate giving 3000 and 4000 mg per day. I use the Nature Made brand capsules from Costco. You get 375 of the 1200 mg capsules for about $17 per bottle. You need to be careful of the brand because you want them to be purified to remove heavy metals and to have undergone voluntary testing to prove purity and safety. (Supplements don't have the same safety regulations that drugs do.) Start slow; some dogs will get GI upset with a new item introduced to their diet. alligande
Thanks Liz, I bought store brand from BJs that have the same criteria as Nature Made, just cheaper. I will start them with one a meal and build up.
