Border Collie Studies Sample Collection Website

Recommended Posts

Not all samples submitted were tested; only those dogs that met the study requirements were tested. It was cost prohibitive to test every sample submitted. Including too many closely related dogs would have skewed the data away from a "genome wide" study towards a familial study. Only affected dogs and normal dogs were tested; those of undetermined status were not tested.

Offspring of an affected dog will either be a carrier or affected.

The risk test Dr Neff is developing may provide the answers you seek.

The results of the genome wide association study cannot be used to identify dogs that are affected or are carriers of EOD; it is a correlation study not one that establishes cause and effect. The results from this study can only be used to guide the next step (of several steps) towards identifying the gene(s) that do cause EOD.
