Christine R.

Recommended Posts

Hello and sorry for this post -

but i can´t show any pics anymore.

The same with links, or underline words...make them fat, etc. -

all these possibilities are not shown anymore.

I see, that something changed - and i can

see the "i- help with attaching files"

But this doesn´t work for me.

Hm ? Where´s my mistake ?

Can anybody help me ?

Thank you very much

Christine

I'm not sure what the problem might be. Do you see that there are three drop-down menus just above the space where you are writing your post that say "Other styles," "Fonts" and "Sizes." Immediately to the right of them is a symbol that lets you set the color of what you write. Below them is a row of symbols. Hold your cursor over each one to see its function. Using them you can make text bold, or in italics, or underlined, etc. To the right of the emoticon icon is one that lets you insert a link, and next to that is one that lets you insert an image that is at a URL location. Like so:

If the picture is on your computer rather than at a URL address, use the "Attach This File" button below the text box, like so:

[photo removed, because -- would you believe it? -- it had been downloaded 13 times since yesterday]

It's true that the array of tools has changed a little with the upgrade, but you can still do the same things you always could.

Hello Eileen,

thank you very much for your answer

Unfortunately i can´t see any of the dropdown menues.

And the field with the emotiocons is empty.

I wish i could show you a screenshot - but no chance.

@John Lloyd Jones

I´m not aware, that i turned Javascript off.

In fact, i´m more a user than a Computer Specialist - and

my husband has strictly forbidden me to install or deinstall anything. ;-)

How can i see - if Javascript is on or off ?

Thank you

very much

Christine

That depends on your browser, but it will be somewhere in the browser's Preferences/Internet Options dialog. I only have an ancient version of IE, but for that browser, it's a popup started from the in the Security tab by choosing the "Custom Level" button for the Internet zone. In Firefox, you go to the Content tab of the Preferences dialog and you will see a checkbox labeled "Enable Javascript" (translate into German as applicable). If your husband is more technical, perhaps he can check this for you?

Hm. I see just below the box where I'm typing this that there's a field I can select that says "use full editor". If I click on that, then I can get the emoticons. But I don't see anything that allows me to select underlining, bolding, or embedding a URL into specified text (as opposed to pasting the entire URL) or wrapping something in quotation marks. So, compared to what I could use as editing tools in the past, I'd rate this as only a "partial" editor. I've noticed this issue since the migration to the new "skin". FWIW, I'm using Internet Explorer 8.

Christine, I see you use Imageshack to host your photos. I'm afraid I don't know anything about Imageshack. Flickr recently changed its interface and it gave several of us a few fits until we got things sorted out. Can you be more specific about how you used to do to post pictures and what's happening now? Perhaps there's someone who can figure out what's going wrong.

I am finding posts lying on top of other posts. For instance, Alchemist's post above is blocking the last part of JohnLloydJones' post on my screen. In another post where someone had posted a lot of pictures, a poster's comment on the pictures appeared on top of the post with the pictures. Weird!

Christine, what browser are you using?

Isn't IE 8 brand new? Alchemist, when did you start using that version? I wonder if that could be the issue.

Hello Eileen,

normally - i use Internet explorer -

but this i write in Mozilla Firefox - and happy me -

now i can see :)

I´m going to find out (or let my husband find out) why i have a complete different

page with the ie -

until then i use Mozilla.

Thank you all very much for taking

my problem serious.

I like this board !

That happens to me, too. I think it only happens in photo threads, though. I have IE 7 at work and Safari at home. I'm not sure if it happens in Safari, too. I'll have to check. It looks like this:

Heavens, I have no idea when I switched over to IE8. But according to Wikipedia, it's been out since March 2009: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Explorer_8

I still run Windows XP on a nearly four-year-old computer (purchased the week that Vista came out; I opted to buy XP instead and have not regretted this decision once).

I don't have the problem with seeing posts superimposed on each other. I just can no longer use the cute "embed link" or "quote" buttons or choose different fonts the way I used to be able to before the Boards got upgraded. No biggie except I do kind of miss the "embed link" button - some links get long.

My mistake. I don't use IE but I have it installed on my desktop, and I get dinged when a new version is available. Seems like only yesterday . . .

ETA: FWIW, I noticed the following in a review on that Wikipedia page:

Security isn't the only factor causing Web denizens to flock to alternative browsers. For years, Internet Explorer's page rendering has caused major headaches for Web developers and users alike. Some pages that look and function as designers intended in Firefox, Opera, and other third-party browsers have their layouts broken when rendered by Internet Explorer. IE 8 makes an effort to improve compatibility but ultimately falls short.

I am getting the same thing as jack & co and maryp the posts lying over posts. I am using IE7 I think.. it happens mostly on photo threads but not always, I do get it sometimes on regular threads. drives me crazy lol

It would help the programmer a lot if you (1) sent me the exact link to a post where you were getting this behavior; (2) posted a screen print of what you're seeing there; and (3) told me what browser you were using. Thanks!

We think the fix we just had done for the problem Internet Explorer users were having with the editing icons should have fixed all the Internet Explorer incompatibilities. If you have had problems with posts lying on top of other posts, please post here if you run into that problem again after 11/3/10 at 2:00 pm EDT. Thanks.
