Little Bo Boop
A gal on our Flickr site, said her dog got this. Evidently her husband has been catching a lot of salmon and feeding it to the dog..who knew they could catch this from eating the salmon?? Wow. Luckily if caught early (and the vet can diagnose it) it's very treatable. Scary stuff though. http://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/cliented/salmon.aspx

Yeah, you would think you were doing your dog a favor by feeding them salmon, right? Guess not....
Brad
Always deep freeze salmon for 24 hours to kill the parasites.
njnovice
A thread was just posted about this recently on my pit bull forum. It was a total shock to me. I've fed Mick raw salmon before. Not anymore.

rushdoggie
Yes, I hear about the parasite a lot here in the PNW. Fish is one thing I won't feed raw up here, I guess. I do share the cooked leftovers when us humans eat it and they are getting salmon oil.
Brad
Fish is one thing I won't feed raw up here, I guess. As I noted, salmon is fine raw as long as it's been frozen for at least 24 hours. Being close to the water, I can get salmon very cheap certain times of the year, and the dogs all love that time.

I have heard, that it is better to feed Atlantic Salmon rather than Pacific Salmon if feeding raw, because Pacific Salmon carry flukes, which is the problem. I'm not an expert on this subject, just passing on what I have heard when I was feeding raw meat.
Rave
I didn't hear about it until I moved to the NW. It's good to know!
