dobro_21
well this all started saturday, he starting having seizures so i did what they told me to do when he has one with his pills and all but he kept having them, so i called them and we had to rush him to the vet, t his was also at 8pm so the vet had to come in since they close at 5pm. we spent around 1 hr there getting them to stop, finally they stopped and he was on alot of drugs that she used. all day sunday and monday he was fine tell about 10pm monday night, he had them again and i had new stuff to give zipper when he had them and they told me it takes an hr or so to fully get into his system, so i used it after his 1st one, then around 11 he had another one and 12am he had another one so they said to give him another one of the stuff they gave me becasue it will help more, i did and he kept having seizures. i did that all night tell the AM came. well 8am came and they opended and i called then and said he had one every hour and the stuff i gave him didnt work at all that the vet said to use. this was tuesday morning by the way. so they said i needed to rush zipper in now, Poor zipper couldnt even walk, i had to carry him to the car and then inside the vet. he was there at about 8:30am, then around 4:30pm i get a call saying th ey have to keep him over night, they have been doind blood work, to see why none of his pills are working and why the meds they gave me didnt help at all, It was a very lonely night last night and yesterday with out him there, i kept wanting to say zipper lets go play but then it hit me he wasnt here he always sleeps right by my head and i use him as a pillow and thats how we sleep and just having him not there was really sad, i kept thinking how i felt and i couldnt think how zipper felt, hes all alone in a cage I should be getting him back today if all goes right, i miss my little man really much, its 10am and im just waiting for a call saying that i can come pick him up and that they solved all his seizures and everything. Ill let you all know what happens with him and what was wrong, now i need to get some money lol, this was the last month on his vet bill then i had it paid off.....well not anymore lol i have a long long couple of months tell i get it close to being paid off again what we do and pay for dogs, i would pay anything to make zipper all bertter again and im glad i got him not someone else who might have just let him die or not care what was going on. I love you Zipper and cant wait for you to be home and im sorry if its a mess or hard to read, writing is no where near my strong point, bear with it if you can
aljones
So sorry to hear about the rough last few days you and Zipper have had! One of my dogs has had a couple of minor seizures, but I cannot imagine how scary things were for you when the medication wasn't having any effect. I hope Zipper is home soon and you finally have some answers about what's happening with him.

juliepoudrier
I'm sorry to hear about Zipper. If you haven't already found it, this canine epilepsy site might have some useful resources for you. And here's a Yahoo group: Canine epileptics. I hope Zipper gets to come home today and that the vet was able to get the seizures under control. J. Alchemist
Mojo from Baltimore, too! My last Border collie developed epilepsy when she got older (14 or so?). I know how scary it can be. Fortunately her seizures were relatively mild and infrequent. May this prove to be the case with Zipper, too, after the vet gets the meds figured out! dobro_21
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great news, Zipper is HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but here is all the bad news.......... After they got his blood work back they noticed something about his seizures, They said Zipper has a rare epilepsy, they said his cant be treated much more, they up his pills to a stronger dose. they believe he has strong brain damage, and you can tell by the way he acts if nothing works out, he doesnt snap outta it or get any better they said it would be best to put him down so he wont suffer. if he has another seizure then they said thats the day we will have to put him down, I hope thigns all work out and he can be with me for alot more years. im just glad he is home and if th ese are his final days they are with me. bc4ever
I hate those "good news/bad news" things. Glad he's home where you can love him and comfort him. Praying for you and Zipper. (Is it wrong to pray for a misdiagnosis too?)
aljones
Very glad to hear that Zipper is home, but so sorry to learn of his diagnosis. Whatever the days ahead hold, he is lucky to be with you. I will keep you both in my thoughts.
MaggieDog
((hugs)) When my parents' dog developed epilepsy she had a few seizures (she had cluster gran mal seizures) that left her blind, but each time she recovered her sight after a few days; I hope Zipper bounces back like Oreo did. Oreo had epilepsy from 3 years old until her death from unrelated causes at 14 years old. She had one round of status epilepticus (continuous seizures) that we had to use IV phenobarb to stop, but she came out ok. The canine epilepsy site linked above was incredibly helpful for us and allowed my family to tweak enough things that she no loner needed one of her meds and went seizure free for 4 years! Do you suppose you could get a second opinion? Most vets are general practitioners so a specialist might be more likely to know of alternative options for the scary diagnosis. rushdoggie
I'm glad to hear Zipper is home with you! Can you find a veterinary neurologist? There are a lot of treatments available and its possible that you could get the seizures under control. My Faye had horrible cluster seizures for 4 years, and finally we found the right combo of medications and she went 10 years without a seizure. Neurologists are experts and may be able to help where your regular vet might not have the knowledge. Best wishes to you both...I know how helpless it feels to watch your dog convulse.
