Ninso
Hello, I am picking up a little foster girl next Sunday. She is about 8 months old, I think, very adorable, and she is deaf. This is my first real foster experience and my first time training a deaf dog. She is a really great little dog, very friendly, very enthusiastic, tons of ball drive. I am excited for the training challenge, but would appreciate any tips from anyone who has been there and done that. I am thinking about getting a vibrating collar and teaching her to respond to that like a hearing dog would respond to their name, but the cost may be prohibitive. The least expensive one I have found is around $80 on ebay. I also picked up a keychain flashlight to use in place of a clicker. I have lots of ideas, but it will be trial and error. Any tips would be very much appreciated.
Jack & Co.
One of the Board members, Jo & Tex, has a deaf dog as well as a blind dog. I seem to remember that she has posted about their progress so you might want to read her past posts or PM her. Good luck!
