DTrain
We recently purchased a dog, BC. We did not get him from his owner but rather from a third party. We don't know much about him but, he is fully trained, we think he is four or five years old and we know he comes from a recognized blood line. We also know that he was trained by a professional trainer. We also know that he has been a working dog on a farm most of his life probably with other dogs. He works perfectly with us on sheep and cattle and does a perfect job although at times he wants to work quickly and a little close but will get out when we ask. However, we have been forced to use voice commands with him only. We expect he has been trained on whistles in fact we can say that we know this. With the exception of a call-off whistle we have yet to discover, after trying everything, what other whistles he may have been trained on and understands. His response to almost every whistle we have tried is to stop and look at us or stand. He has the usual come-bye, away, lie down, steady, look back etc. on voice command but not once have we seemed to hit a whistle that works for him on these commands. We were told that he may not have whistle commands but we don't quite buy that. We are not certain we want to attempt to re-train him on whistles. We can only guess but with an educated guess what would you think he has been trained on and what would you try to find his commands. Strange but true. Thanks. Its always nice to have a multiple stop whislte! It sounds like if he isn't responding to any whistles you have tried, it should not be difficult to put him on your own whistles. WHen I run into this probel, I go through all the whistles I know to look for a response...same as what you have done. Good luck - sounds like you got a good dog.
