  1. Hello all, I am just curious if there are any agility/flyball people here who also live in Sothwest VA, specifically, close to Abingdon VA. I would like to get into either one of these sports with my girl, but am having trouble finding any classes/clubs as close to me as I would like. Of course maybe there are none and I should just suck it up and drive 2 hours (or however long) to the nearest one, but I wanted to check and see if any of y'all know something I don't. I hope I don't sound lazy, LOL, it's just that if I'm going to attend classes regularly I'd rather it not be a 4 hour round trip, for the sake of my schedule and the environment. Thanks for your time.
  2. Running well as a regular on our local flyball team. Rock solid, never rattled. Running 4.1 to 4.2 in start, and 4.3 to 4.45 in a passing position. Box turn is still a bit rough, but improving. His endurance is phenominal, he gets faster as the day progresses, even on day 2 of a tournament, he shows no signs of slowing down. His agility work is coming along nicely too! He now has a good start line stay, I can lead out quite a bit. His contacts are solid 2 on 2 off. He even hits the teeter with confidence now. His weaves are almost there. Just mailed in for a CPE number for him, should have him competing this fall!
  3. Hello, everyone! I am a BC beginner and I will be getting my first Border Collie. She will be just about 8 weeks old when I pick her up. I am extremely excited, as I've been searching for the right puppy for a few years now. Even though she comes from a strictly herding line, I've decided that I would like to train her for both flyball and agility when she's older. I've been involved in flyball for about two years now and I am a complete beginner in agility. So, I have a bit of a dilemma that I'm hoping a few of you can help with. How should I go about as far as training classes go? More specifically, which classes should I take (obedience, foundation agility, etc.) and when is a puppy considered old enough to begin said classes? I'm aware that a puppy cannot be subjected to repetitive, strenuous activity until they are about a year old. That being said, what should I be doing with my puppy until then? Also, are there any general (not necessarily sports-related) training tips you can offer? Or any information you'd feel would help a novice? I'm a bit nervous for my first BC and I want to do things to the best of my ability. So, any knowledge would be incredibly appreciated! Thank you!
  4. Hello All- I have a wonderful 4-month old BC. Her parents are both champion herding bc's, and she has a wonderful, friendly temperament. I want to train her for frisbee for sure, and maybe agility and fly-ball. Is she too young to start training now? When is the best time to train? Is this best handled by a professional trainer? If so, I live in Westchester County, NY and would welcome suggestions and introductions. She is very smart and athletic...so want to keep her busy!! Thanks
  5. When do you start a box turns with your puppy? I have heard everything from you can start light hit its at 5-6 months to you shouldn't do any until they are 12-14 months. I was just interested to see when other flyball people start with their puppies.
