  1. Thanks Julie & Sue! I really appreciate the feedback and valuable information. We have a male shephherd mix nextdoor that I'm not sure about whether he's fixed or not. I'll be sure to keep a tight leash on Kaycee over the next few weeks! I had no idea about the after effects of her Heat either. I appreciate the "what to look out for" advice. It is a bit scary info but much needed and appreciated. My poor pup has no idea what's happening to her little body! Lol! I have heard about the tablet that you can give her. I have been doing some net research and I think it's chlorophyl that's in those tabs believe it or not. I'll look into them as well. She'll be over this in no time. I feel a lot better knowing what to expect though. Thanks so much for all of the information and advice.
  2. Kaycee is our first BC. She is 8 months old. We got home from going to the vet for the older dog in our pack (broken tooth, poor girl) and I noticed that there were some small spots of blood where Kaycee was sitting. We knew this would happen sooner or later. We planned to get her spayed but our time line for this surgery was a bit side tracked due to her breaking her foot about 5 months ago. She was just getting out of her cast and healing up real well as Spring was setting in. We didn't want her to have to be "quiet" and settle down after another surgery just when she could run and stretch her legs again. We decided to wait until Fall to have her spayed. Both my husband and I have grown up with dogs but neither of us has ever dealt with a bitch in heat (okay, at least I haven't...I'm sure my husband would beg to differ while slyly pointing my direction..lol). My questions are how do you folks deal with this? Kaycee is a very clean little lady. She takes care of herself. I just don't know what to expect. When did your females first go into heat? How long does this bleeding last? Should I go get her a diaper? I'd really hate to do that. I can just see her looking so upset & heart/spirit broken if I did that to her. Should I expect any behavioral changes during this time? I appreciate any feedback. Thanks!
  3. So sorry for your loss. I couldn't post after I first reead this thread last night. I was too upset. I've calmed down a bit but the tears are still freely flowing. Thought and prayers for you, your family and your dear Princess Nikita. Take all the time you need. We all heal in our own sweet time.
  4. I have a quick question. Our BC is 8 months old now and we're very skittish about letting her jump to catch balls (her obsession) and frisbees. She broke her foot about 3-4 months ago that required surgery. She is fully healed now an dyou can barely see the scar on her little piggies now but I'm very fearful of this injury reoccuring. She loves her Jolly balls and anything else in this workls that resembles the shape of a ball that she can wrap her mouth around and bring to us for a toss. I would love to be able to bring out the Chuckit and her frisbees again but I'm soo scared. Any suggestions? PS We have since invested in Pet Insurance for any future injurues. Anyone uot there who has a BC and doesn't have Pet Insurance I STRONGLY suggest that you get it for this active breed!
  5. Any news of Nikita's status? I hope things are going as well as possible.
  6. Oh Sammy! Please come home safe and sound! Sending our Mojo from Jersey!
  7. Showing our love and support from our pack to yours! Hugs!
  8. Our pup, Kaycee did the same thing about 3 months ago. She was anout 4-5 months old at the time. She's absolutely ball crazy! They are her passion in life. She will learn any trick or do anything for you as long as you reward her with a toss a ball from her ever growing collection. ANyway, she jumped up to catch a ball and came doen funny on her rear right paw. She wound up breaking all of the metatarcels in that foot. It required 2 pins in the middle bones and 6 weeks of soft cast and keeping her "quiet". I'm still really wary of thowing the balls for her even now. She's about 8 months old now and pretty well healed. I would caution against playing with frisbees or balls at heights for pups under 1 year.
  9. We got Mist in the bargain bin at Walmart beieve it or not! We happened to get it an watch it the first week that we brought our genious BC Kaycee home at 8 wks old! Our family enjoyed it and our 4yo daughter has watched it at least a dozen time already! It's quite possible that the next dog-der (BC of coarse) will have to be named Mist because of this sweet movie!
  10. Blaze is yummy! I love her! Very cute! What a nice story about her finding her way to you. I'm sure she will pay you back 100 fold for your kindness and love! Enjoy! I look forward to seeing more of her!
  11. I know. Our Kaycee is about 6 Mos old now and I can't believe how quickly she's grown. We've been through hell with her over the past 2 mos with her broken paw but she's the smartest thing I've seen on 4 legs! I can't wait to get another BC in the future! Attached are a few of my favorite pics of Kaycee. She makes me very happy! I loves her to death!
  12. Our Kaycee has eaten the sheatrock down to the stud...She also has a gnarly (sp) foot fettish...she loves DH's socks (only the most recently used) and loves to "clean" the inside of his work boots when he comes home and gets changed. She's a trip though! Our first BC and I'm sure we'll be getting another within the next 2-3 yrs.
  13. That's a cute idea! I never thought of that. Our 4 YO daughter loves dying the eggs. We have a dozen and a half dyed eggs of all colors. We love egg salad after the holiday. Thank goodness. Now here's my question regarding the hard boiled eggs for the BC's - Not to be gross, but we all know the...um...uhh... "after effects" of hard boiled eggs on humans. Have any of you actually let your BC's eat hard boiled eggs?? I can only imagine the "after effects" from the dog! Teh SBD's from dogs are already well...deadly! WHEW!
  14. Our pup, Kaycee broke all of the boines in her RH foot almost 4 weeks ago. She's just 6 months old now. She had surgery to pin the two center bones and the 2 outer bones were set. This coming Wed will be 4 weeks. We're hoping that the splint can come off. It's killing her to not be able to play with her precious balls! From one doggie with a "Boo-Boo" to another - Best wishes on a speedy recovery!
  15. Soooo HAPPY to hear that Jin is doing better! Still thinking about you and your family. Sending prayers and love until Jin is home and feeling like himself again!
