  1. Sending lots of good thoughts to you and Tio. Hope that the improvements continue!
  2. chelstfrox, good for you for doing your homework before getting a dog! And thank you for fostering dogs that need homes! You have received a lot of really good advice. I just want to echo what Julie P said, you do not need to run a dog at a trial. Go as a spectator or volunteer! That's a great way to learn and to meet people. Talking to open handlers is the best way to find out who may have a litter planned and when. Meeting people in person is always better than trading emails or phone calls. Also going to a trial will allow you to see dogs in action and you may find one that really strikes your fancy. Also just as an example, I have been on a list for a puppy for over a year. And the next breeding is not likely to happen until this winter. That's a two year wait. I'm not complaining one bit. I know I want my next dog from those particular lines. So, I am happy to wait. Best wishes! Vicki
  3. I'm thinking of you and Tio. Good luck!
  4. Best wishes to Donald and Fly for a fabulous trip across the pond!
  5. I have Embrace on all 3 of my working dogs. I have had yet to file a claim (knocks on wood). It costs about $700a year to insure all 3 with basically a catastrophic type policy... I chose Embrace based on information that I read here I believe. They also pay out 80% on items covered (regardless of cost) not a fixed amount based on the type of procedure, etc.
  6. I keep a list of potential puppy names in my wallet. I'm lame like that. I know a Tate - his nickname is Tater-tot, too. He's actual my Devon's brother. PS - all these puppies are killing me!!! I have to wait for next winter for my potential new pack member....
  7. Welcome! Kodus to you for rescuing a dog! Happy Trails to you and Harvey!
  8. Hey Jovi, Is this one: http://www.bordercollie.org/boards/index.php?showtopic=34920 It was discussed here on the boards later last year. It's a UK film.
  9. Hi Sue, I am interested! Looking forward to seeing you again at the Bluegrass this year.
  10. I am so sorry to see this thread Kristine. RIP Sammie. Run free at the bridge.
  11. We get up about 4:45am during the week. We walk, eat, and I get ready for work. I let them out before I leave again around 6:30am. We all go to be around 9pm. Sometimes they beat me there.
  12. Oh, shoot. I am so sorry to hear this. I hope that you and Kip get some more good time together. You'll both be in my thoughts.
  13. Keeping you both in my thoughts. Hugs.
  14. Cat poop I don't think will really hurt a dog but eating enough of the litter attached to it can, I believe. Plus, its just nasty. I have the litterbox in the basement - it's usually gated off but none of my dogs go downstairs unless invited.
  15. Hi Mara, Thinking good thoughts for you and Kipp.
  16. If still looking for a rescue you can pass along MidWest Border Collie Rescue.
  17. I am so sorry for your loss.
  18. Hi BCLover2000, This is a video of the an AKC dog herding sheep. This is a video of an ABCA border collie that has been bred for stock work competing at the highest level of a USBCHA trial. (Scott Glen and Don are actually the 2013 National Champions) ACK border collies are not bred for working ability. They are bred to meet a breed standard. Sport dogs are bred to compete in sports. The eccense of a border collie is its unmatched stock working ability. Border collies bred for sports and show are not border collies in my opinion. You have recieved some good tips to finding a good working border collie breeder for your next sport partner.
  19. I am so very sorry for your loss of Speedy, Kristine. Dance on at the bridge Speedy.
