  1. Thank you so much for the advice, I will start immediately with this "program", it´s great Idea to keep her on leash. She is a great dog!! I love her till death despite her "flaws" Well she does not greet me this way when I come home, she ignores me, probably because I have ignored her from beginning. I never make a big fuzz when I come home, or go outside, so ofcourse, this is the reason... Ever since she was a puppy, visitors always let her jump on them, and they pampered her, and she always got so much attention, and everybody allowed this behaviour. Well, now I know the reason for this behaviour, I think, and hopefully will manage to illiminate it with the advice you gave me. Thank you so much:)
  2. Sorry, I have miswritten this. She is not afraid of the people, she just gets so excited, she jumps on people, and tries to lick them in the face and the growl is only when people knock on the door, but when people come inside, she jumps on them, tries to lick them, and barks just like she is getting ride of some energy. She is crate trained, and I repeat, she goes into her crate whenever I ask her. The main issue is before people entering our house, when they are at the front door, and she hears them knocking. And also about the jumping thing, she always jumps on people and tries to lick their faces.. I think that it is because I never did mind teaching her these manners, I guess.. I apologize, I obviously did not read my post very well before pushing enter I am so embarressed. Also, because I don´t write english often, I am not very good at it
  3. Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I have a dog, who is 2 years old now. Ever since she was a litle puppy I have been taking her to puppy schools, I took her with me to work for one year from she was a puppy to one years old, she is very sozialized when she is outdoor, and surrounded by other people everywhere we go, but at home she is nervous when there are visitors coming, only at first, but she barks alot and growls, but in maybe 1-2 minutes it stoppes. I have tried everything, making noises from a can (which only made it worse), tell her to go to her bed and stay there, which works but when I give her free command it starts all over again. I have tried to click when she stops barking, that only made it worse, because she barked all the time to get a treat for stopping. She is very smart, and she is usually not afraid of people, but there is something I am doing wrong, not her. What should I do when visitors come, and she is acting this way? People is often afraid of her, and we are getting few visitors only because of this issue, and people has told us that they won´t come is the dog is not in her crate, and I am talking about my in Laws, and my mother in law is extremely afraid of dogs, and she can not come visit us because of the dog. I think also, Ugla is nervous because she knows my mother in law is scared, but how can I fix this? Please help...
  4. Thanks:) I am always asked what colour my dog is, no one belives she´s a Border Collie (yes, not very svilized dog culture in Iceland) and I just want to have the colour name so if someone asks I can just tell them to google And thanks for the merle info, I get it now:)
  5. To produce red merles (or as you might call it, chocolate merle), than one parent must be chocolate right? (because it is reccesive gene?) If the non merle parent is black and carrying the chocolate gene, will there be chocolate merles? Say you want to produce both blue and chocolate merles, what is the recipe? (I am not a breeder, I am just wondering). And would you say my dog has the white factored gene? And with ticking. Her whole back is solid black so she´s not piebald?
  6. I am so sorry for your loss. He was a beautiful boy.
  7. Great news!! I´m sure you find a good home for her, and thanks to you, she will hopefully live much much longer. You are an angel!
  8. You are an angel, giving this beautiful dog a second chance! I hope she does not have a heartworm, and I´m sure someone has a wonderful soul like you and take her and make her a nice life. Good luck both!
  9. Thank you so much for your information. I have been reading about the running contackt on silvia Trkman website, and I´m not sure if I have the patience in teaching her that, and 2o2o seems much more easier for me who has never trained an agility dog before. So my decision is 2o2o, so thank you.
  10. The contact zone is not an easy learn for my precius...so I have to get on with it sooner than later teaching her this methood.
  11. I have only question...are you sure you have a BC? (sorry, just had to..) I can give Ugla anything, and she plays with it ONLY if I offer of course. Tug´o´war is her favorite except for running after her frisbie or tennisball of curse which is I think imprinted in these dogs. But what if you get a friend with you and play with the toy you want her to play with, and get her excited and maybe than she will think of it as a toy? I don´t know, I have never had this problem, only the opposite when my dogs were puppies...EVERYTHING was for tug ´o war..
  12. Well, my dear friend was asking me if I wanted to adopt a 2.5 year old Border Collie. He is FCI registrated and my friend owned his father, which was imported to Iceland some years ago, but unfurtunately he past away early this year. Now the people who owns him now have to find a new home for him. He is beautiful handsome dog, and with a heart of gold. Well I am getting really excited, but of course I have to think about my other dogs. He is not used to be around other dogs, and I have already 3 females at home, two of them are so much smaller than he is. They have also not been very much around male dogs, so my concerns are if it would work out or maybe our home would be one stress panic phsyco instituition before I know.. I have no concerns for Ugla, she loves every dog she sees, but one issue...her ball is off limit. You see, this is her ball, not others to play with I feel I´m ready for another dog, specially because this one has been trained, and is housebroken of course, so it´s not like taking a puppy. And there is perfect balance now, Ugla is so easy, everything we do I think I am enjoying even more then she is. She is 19 months old and the others are 4 and 5 years old. What do you think? I have never taken an adult dog before, so I have no clue what I´m getting into. Maybe someone with experience who can tell me this will be ok, and go for it
  13. "I've fed Royal Canin before, for a very food-sensitive dog with great results. Is the coat-skin the only problem? Is she dry and scaley, or oily and greasy feeling? Is she itching? Any open wounds? Is the skin problem a year round affair, or does it come and go?" She bites her toes alot and is pink on her belly and between her toes. The coat is dry and her skin also. No open wouns, and it is all the time.
  14. Probably I should have put this in "heath and genetics". I apologize. I also want to ask you, if you recognize Royal Canin, is medium sensible would be a good option for her? It is for sensible digestion and stomach and also for active medium dogs.
  15. I need a little help about food, here in Iceland we probably do not have the same variety as you do for your dog Now we need to change her food, because the food she has been eating is not good for her, not the coat or skin, she has allergies for something in it, we feed her with Eukanuba Lamb & rice. The food pruducts we have here in Iceland in Petstores are: -Regal -Nutro Choise -Arden Grange -Royal Canin -Hills -Nutrience -Eukanuba (which is not ideal for her) -Pro plan (Purina I think?) -Belcando -Bento Kronen -Arion -ProFormance -Propac -Technical -Nutram I think it´s it. Do you recognize any of these brands? And maybe you can recommend anything specific on this list? Do you feed performance or maintenance? She is very active, but maybe 2-3 times pr.week she is an indoor dog as I would call it, just playing in the yard with her ball, or long walks. Other days we do tracking, agility, obedience, and do clicker training.
