  1. We give our one dog who has bad arthritis a glucosamine/chondritin put out by novapharm 35.50 for 180 500mg tablets and an antiinflammatory deramax. Our dog used to struggle getting up and now she plays like a puppy. We watch how much activity she does, and have restricted her from playing frisbee. We live in Canada, prices may be cheaper in the US. She has been on it for almost a year now. We tried taking her off, and noticed a difference within a couple of weeks.
  2. Hello, thank you for allowing me to post. I have a five month old border collie "Ollie May" hyped of course ..150% energy. She became very sick temp 104+, lethargy, and off balance, off food. She tested positive for Giardiasis but no other blood cultures were drawn. Xrays showed HOD (hypertrophic Osteodystrophy), however I have read that Sepsis also will appear as HOD on Xray. We started an IV, and many antibiotics and she completely recovered. I have been warned to switch the food. We previously fed a mix of four different kinds, some high protein, 42%, others down at 22% , all human grade dog food. HOD may be caused by a high protein, high calorie diet. Everything I can find with regards to amounts are for large breed dogs. Now I have switched to california naturals but it is an adult food as per everything i read and I don't know how many daily calories I need to feed. I understand pups will eat more than they need and lately she has seemed hungry. The vet says there really are no guidelines, just to go by how she looks. She looked lean before we changed. If anyone knows roughly how many calories to feed daily it would be helpful as then I would have a guideline from which to fluctuate from. When I began I fed only 450 calories morning and night. She was hungry so I doubled it...well myhusband did..I have maintained it for two days.
