  1. No matter what I would never give one of my animals up. We saved Jack from the shelter, he was 6 months old and from the actions of the people there at the "end of his days" cuz no one wanted him and he had been at another shelter before the one we got him from. We kept our animals as a kid to the "very end". When you have a pet - it's yours for life (their life) not for as long as you want and then get rid of them.
  2. BTT. How's the pup? Luckily I've never had to deal with worms so I can't imagine what you and your little one are going thru. Update us!
  3. The only time I don't beak up the wrestling is when the GR takes Jack down - and once in a while he does. I've seen him practically toss him in the air, then hold him down by putting Jack's whole head in his mouth. Maybe I'm wrong for letting it go, but seeing him be put in his place that he's not the alpha dog (by the one he's trying to overthrow and has 40lbs on him) seems like the right thing. Sometimes the pack has to work things out for themselves. Plus it makes me laugh cuz he's a little turdling and deserves it.
  4. Some great advice here - thank you! They wrestle but Jack is getting too aggressive and hurtful - so that's why I posted as it worries me. I want him to be a good doggie but he's so naughty sometimes! I didn't realize when I was just saying his name it was to get his attention but not following it up with something left him not knowing what to do. Now if I see him going at our older dog I say firmly "Jack NO" and he seems to be responding to this. Now if he'll just stop trying to heard me I'll be better off...he's almost a year old (we've only had him for 6 months from a shelter) so I think a lot of this takes time.
  5. In Moab I had to chase Jack down with a huge cow patty in his mouth. Every time he stopped he ate some of it. Not my #1 choice in foods, and we feed him very good food too but I just chalk it up to dog habits. I've never known a dog not to eat poop. I had to hide the cat box cuz they were eating "kitty cookies". Jack also eats the vomit of our other dogs if they get sick in the night. I just try to avoid anywhere that he can eat poop/vomit but sometimes it's unavoidable. I take it away with a firm "NO". But he's still naughty.
  6. He stops if I call his name, but then sometimes he goes right back to it. He does it with both my man and I that's why I feel like I'm at a loss. He's so damn determined to take him down/out.
  7. BC/Jack - 1 yr old in June Alpha dog (Golden retriever) - 9 yrs old Jack is constantly trying to over throw our 9 yr old GR. I don't know how to stop it. He drags him by the ears, his legs, anything he can get a hold of. If I don't break it up sometimes he's actually choking him. Once in a while the GR will take him down, but he's getting older even tho we know he has a lot of life left. Jack just won't listen and is constantly going after him. It's almost like he's abusing him and I don't know how to stop it. We also have a blue healer who's 4 and they're playmates. He never tries to overthrow him. Although they have gotten in a spat a few times. What do I do?
  8. That's hilarious! My parents dog used to wait for the mailman to put the mail thru the door slot, grab it and destroy it. If they didn't get to it first there would be shredded mail all over the house. Jack gets a blanket in his crate but he chews holes in it and eats the fabric - I have no idea why. I'd never give him anything stuffed, I already made that mistake and it cost me a vet visit to fix it.
  9. Sounds exactly like mine. We have a few indestructible toys - we also have a golden retriever who can chew up anything in minutes as well. I hope he grows out of it - it's making me crazy. But he's so damn cute...Jack is only 9 months old so...I'm in the same boat as you.
  10. Good to hear - she's super cute. I can sympathize except Jack eats everything, from rocks to sticks (his favorite) to bottle caps...I'm constantly watching him to take stuff away. He has tons of good toys too...but I think he just wants mom to take stuff away from him. We had to turn the cat box towards a wall so the doggies can't get into it...I kept getting grossed out when I saw the dog's face covered in litter. blech. Good luck.
  11. What a beautiful dog. He looks like my Jack minus the spots. Great find! I rescued Jack from petfinder.com as well. It's hard to have a BC puppy - they're alot of work and I think that's why people give them up so quickly. But for me, it's part of the fun of him. He's mama's little buddy...
  12. Everything he brings comes thru the doggy door. I just wish I could teach him to bring me my slippers without having to chase him around to get the sucker out of his mouth. I'll be damned if he doesn't look so proud of what he brings me that I love him for it...I'm waiting for a rabbit or mouse to come into the house next.
  13. In the past week he's brought me (from outside) 2 dead birds - 1 freshly killed and 2 huge sticks, which he's chewed up in the living room while I was sleeping on the couch and the BF was playing PS3 in the other room. I'm waiting to see what new gifts he finds in the back yard for me.
  14. X2. That's how I got my Jack...with this snow/rain thing we've had I give him a shower at least once a week...so hard to keep a white doggie clean. Congrats!
  15. I appreciate all the advice and I'll definitely look into NILIF (I already saved the link but I'll have to read it when I'm home.) I love my Jack. He's a good boy for the most part, just an annoying little guy sometimes. I want to do some training with him and see about competitions so it's imperative he starts listening to me. What's funny is he was supposed to be my BF's dog and I didn't want him since we already have 2 dogs. I fought it for 3 days after finding him online. But when I saw him at the shelter and he crawled to me on his belly he became MY dog. He's a total mama's boy - now I just have to get him to listen to me and we'll be all set. He is crate-trained and listens well, although I was having to force him in there when we left until I read on here about the treat trick and it worked. He LOVES baths..we shower with our dogs to bath them so it's easy. Keeping a mostly white dog clean has been a challenge.
