WOW! Thank you so much for that Raw Dog Ranch web site. pictures and all for the dummies like me out there. , I already ahve him on a Fish oil with Omega 3 supplement but I am thinking about adding flaxseed too. Heck I take so why aren't I giving it to him. I surely have some homework now.

And it is an AKC. So I may not take him. I do have another question though. We have always said that we didn't want to introduce him to sheep and herding because we haven't had children yet and were concerned about fully turning that switch to "on". But I have been thinking about it a lot recently and my thoughts are that it would 1. Be really good for him! 2. It would teach my DH and I how to handle him when he gets in that mode. Why, He is already very peramiter protective at the house. There are some neighbors that can walk by and he is fine with them. 99% of the time it is because he sees them on a regular basis and likes them. And then there are some that he absoultely is not okay with and will have a fit over. Not to mention the diesel truck problem. He really wants to herd those. Any advice!

I wasn't sure where else to post this question so I am sorry if it should have gone somewhere else. My question is that my Aunt is competing in a herding trial (her first) next weekend and I would like to take Blaze but am concerned about him getting over excited and exciting the other dogs. He has been to agility trials before when he was younger and of course there it isn't as big of a deal because all of the dogs are excited. But given that I have never been to a herding trial before I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm not saying that I can't completely control Blaze but I am saying that he is a 20 month old typical male boy and I want to make sure that if something does happen that it will not be the end of the world.

I know that there have been numerous food threads that have come up but from reading them and the websites that have been posted I have some questions about adding a little bit of fruit and veggies to his diet. He is on Nutro Natural Venision and Brown Rice right now, he gets 3 cups, once a day and if we ever give him anything else we cut back on the amount of cereal that he gets. The only other food that he gets is Scrambled Eggs Pumpkin Cottage Cheese Sliced Cheese Yogurt Soup Bones and these are VERY rare, minus the pumpkin, that I mix in with his cereal probably twice a week. I guess what I am really looking for is any advice on what veggies and fruits are better than others, I know that there are quite a few that are hard for them to digest and things like that. Any direction to some good web sites would be great!!! There is so much information out there and it is hard to seperate it all. I would like to one day go completely raw but at the moment am not ready.

9 months old, are you sure that when you were playing frisbee she didn't fall on it wrong maybe, she could have pulled a muscle instead. Mine did this twice right around that age. We took him to the vet to make sure it wasn't anything serious (of course it was to me, as I was histerical in tears) and they wrapped him up both times.

It wasn't red at all, the color was completely normal. It was just scraped and the scraping looked like a cheese grater had gone over it. But given that none of his other pads look like this, and it's only the Dew pads (sorry, I really don't know what to call them) I wasn't sure if I should be concerned.

I wonder if maybe that is there way of trying to help?

The other night I had to put Blaze in the tub to wash his paws after it got really dewy out and as I was washing them I noticed that the extra pad did not look right, it looked like someone had taken a cheese grate to the top layer. I have NO idea what could have happened. Is this normal?

I only brush Blaze, I don't have to worry about the ice part or I might be trimming at teh paws too.

Blaze has never done this but I think that he knows that Rebel would woop his butt if he did. They play together and chase each other around the house but sit on him. No, never.

Blaze eats at night, he's 39 pounds and I give him about 3 cups of dry cereal a day. I don't give him soft food, but will mix pumpkin in it sometimes. There are times on the weekend that I will make breakfast and when I do he gets scrambled eggs with us, and sometimes when i make Lasagna he gets cottage cheese, if it is one of those days we will only give him 2.5 cups. He goes # 2, 3 times a day still. Once in the morning, once in the afternoon and once before bed.

I'm gonna second the can with pennies, we use this with Blaze because he is very property protective and now whenever we brign the can out he knows that the behavior is a no-no and that he must stop. It actually has been our best friend. Nothing works for us like the can.

I am not sure that I could put the feelings into words. Although my DH and I will argue on a cold night about who will walkl him, I can easily say that he has brought us closer. We have formed a bond with him that I have never formed with another animal. At least 10 times a day we will look at each other and say "look at him, do you see how he is sitting, on that pillow". (change the see how he is sitting to laying, or look at that face, ro did you see the way that he just threw that toy... etc, etc, etc.) We can't help ourselves. I woke up at 6 o'clock this morning with a terrible Charlie Horse and as soon as I started screaming he was on the bed checking on me to make sure that I was okay. Licked me all over and didn't leave my side until I left for work. It's all the little things added up that you just cannot replace.

Can I say Yeah?

I know that you said that you have tried treats, my question is, how often does he get treats? At what other times? What we did was buy a jar with a loud lid and put a specific treat in it. it is always the same kind of treat so as not to confuse him, we save other treats for at different times. Well we have it to where when we open the lid to the jar, he knows the noise and knows that it means that it is time to go to his crate. Just thought that I would throw it out there.

A comforter is what I use in his crate and he does great with that. My DH and I were talking about it last night and he thinks that because we recently redecorated the bedroom (i.e.. moved all of the furniture to a different home) and in the process his bed was moved. What do you think, could he be right, and if he is what can I do to help him?

I agree, Puppy kindergarten is the best thing for him BUT, I personally would wait a couple more weeks, even if you only took him once or twice a week, as long as he had play time with the other dogs he will learn not to do that. Also have you tried lightly popping his muzzle.

I manage Buddy's behaviors very carefully. I simply cannot manage the world. Isn't that the truth. What a wonderful world it would be if every time someone asked me if they could pet him and I said NO, They would actually listen. I have come across numerous people that want to "try", oh but he's so pretty, blah, blah, blah.. No, please do not pet him. He doesn't do well with strangers. I feel like I am talking to a brick wall sometimes.
