  2. Welcome to BC boards. I'm fairly new myself, but you have choosen well - this is the BEST forum for all BC issues. Post some pics when you get the time. Regards Rich and the two BC's
  3. Interesting question, my two BC's do the same, athough they are only 11 and 9 months old. Yes the playing can look quite vicious at times, i havent had to step in as yet but i will do if req. They seem to know when they have gone far enough, if one yelps the whole thing stops - as if to say whoops sorry did that hurt..... looking forward to the replies on this one. Regards Rich
  4. Thats just SICK, i hope he gets whats coming to him Rich
  5. Again as above, I had my two BC's "done" a month or so ago. Vet told me 10 days. Rich
  6. Hi MaryP. Some very wise words written above. I too currently have the same issue with a rescue and actually was going to start a thread such as this myself. I own two BC`s, 'Rosie' I got at 8 weeks old and had her walking on the streets as soon as was possible, that seems to be the trick, however 'Kai' my rescue obviously had no life experiences to fall back on once we took to the streets. Again he PULLS like mad, goes after anything that moves - just a nightmare really. Its a shame coz round the house he is so sweet and playful. I have tried most of the ideas above regarding 'pulling' and find the Halti to be the best for me, i know some folks will say different but thats what works for him. As far as the cars thing he is getting better, we sit at the roadside on many occasion and he has to remain composed throughout often remaining 'down' for 15 mins or so at a time. He now ignores most things now whilst walking, tho sometimes the odd broken muffler on a car will spook him. Dont get me wrong tho, even with the Halti he can play -up a bit, just a matter of conditioning really - still ongoing as well. Hope you get some joy soon. Regards Rich
  7. I voted YES, as its law here in the UK, when on the street. On rural walks its different, but then a watch out must be kept, you never know from where that jogger is coming from, lol............ Cheers all Rich
  8. Hi mum24dog, welcome. Nice to see some more UK folks on board. Regards Rich
  9. LOL, my old GSD used to do that, only thing i came up with was to smash it up and mix in with food. Regards Rich
  10. Hi Ms.DaisyDuke, yes although its going better the last few days , i have started to use the crate, she used to hate it but now is ok with it, having it in the car for a while helped there i think. The prison comment i made was more of a joke really, i just hate dogs been caged up, though i know they have to sometimes as in this case. all going well so far, will keep you posted. Cheers Rich
  11. Wow thanks all for your inputs, didnt think I would get that many. I will order some `named`balls and see how we go, the toys and balls have to be fairly soft for indoor use for obvious reasons, I have some kongs which they love for outside playing. Will keep you posted on how it goes with the new ones. Thanks again all, much appreciated. Rich
  12. Yeah my two do the same, just chew the bark. I of course dont throw sticks as I know the dangers of this, its just the ones they happen to find in the woods. Difficult one to stop really as when off leech they tend to just play about a lot, yes a `leave it` command would be handy in this situation. I have just spent a week training my rescue to `leave it` rewarding with treats as req. He gets it now and drops whatever he has, deffo a must command. Good luck. Rich
  13. Hi there. Yes i have the same issues with Kai, a rescue i took in a few months ago, if i said `come here boy ` he would run and hide - shows the life he used to have eh !!!! Traffic noises get him worst, again as it seems he was never leech trained. I think its all about conditioning the dog to the noise itself. With Kai I sat on a roadside bench whilst the traffic whizzed past for half an hour. I did this for a week solid and now he is ok with it, tho controlling his pulling is another matter ( a new topic on the cards !!!) I would leave the TV on all the time he is around and get him to relax whilst this is happening, i have done this with both of mine - now they sleep soundly even with the most obtruse noises that the TV produces. I spend about an hour a day training Kai with new commands around the house, he is a slow learner i have to say compared to my other BC, but he does get there. I always make loads of fuss with him when he gets a task correct,It two days get him to catch a ball, with loads of fuss and treats when he got it right. After that he catches the ball every time, brings it back and drops it. Its not easy with rescued dogs as we often dont know their histories, but with a lot of love and patience they re-learn quite soon. Regards Rich
  14. Thanks for your reply, yes i had heard the the teeth subject elsewhere, my old GSD was fine at 16yrs old . To be honest i`d rather it be tennis balls than the gravel or stones in my garden anyday !!!!!. You were correct btw was a pet warehouse place i went to today, just stocking up on food. I wasnt sure if the balls designed for tennis were better than ones for dogs ( if such a thing exists ??) Thanks anyways. Rich
  15. Hello PaddyPaws. Just wondering how its going regarding chasing, i read this topic with keen interest as my recent intake ( a rescue) has the same bad issues. Again I tend to choose the quite times of the day as he will spot a jogger or bike from seemingly miles away, within seconds so is he......... Thanks Rich
