  1. Thank you all for your interest. I have found a very suitable home for her. They are easy-going people and no pressure will be put on her to work. She can find her own way in time. Perhaps she will turn out to be a fantastic working Border Collie. She has plenty of life in her to reach her full potential on a non-working ranch. I am sorry for the all the blood being wasted on us. We are a working sheep ranch with not a lot of time for the Internet. I know not everyone who reads our website will agree with us on all the things we do. I also know we do the best we can by our dogs. Anyone who has ever bought or received a dog from this ranch will tell you they got exactly what I said they were getting. We pride ourselves on being straight about our dogs. Thank you for your time, Eric

  4. Free to good home. Non-working Border Collie. I was given a non-reg. female when she was about 8 months old. I have had her for a few months now and she shows no interest in working at all. She is very shy and sweet female. I am looking for a good home for her. She is Red/White, medium coat. Go to my website for details and to contact me. www.harlowsheepco.com or www.harlowshillswestcoast.com Thank you, Eric

  6. Group, I have reposted an interview I did with Derek Fisher. http://www.harlowshillswestcoast.com/derek_fisher.htm I am working on an interview with Patrick Shannahan. Patrick Shannahan is very well known sheepdog trainer, handler and clinician. Please let me know if you have any questions you would like to ask him. Email me: eric@harlowshillswestcoast.com. I am also working on an interview with Cayle Krebs of Krebs Sheep Co. He is a fourth generation sheep/cattle rancher. What questions would you like me to ask him about the future of the Sheep industry? Email me: eric@harlowshillswestcoast.com. You will be able to read these interviews at my website www.harlowsheepco.com Thank you Eric
  7. One more thing. Be careful when you buy sheep, you could end up with them. The smartest thing I did, is buy a handful of sheep so I didn't have to pay someone else $35 per dog per day just to train my dogs. Sheep are a lot of work but it is sure better then living by someone else's terms. Eric www.harlowshillswestcoast.com
  8. If you pay at all, the going rate is $.03 per head per day. We generally offer $.02 if they have access to water. It also depends on the time of year. We pay $.065 per ewe per day during the hot summer months, this is for our mountain allotment. The best thing to do is find out what the cattle people pay per cow, then devide that by 5 or 6 and offer to pay that. Don't get into a bidding war with cattle people you will lose. There are a lot of cattle people that have cows just so they can wear the boots and hat, not to make money on them. Time for me to go put on my boots and hat. Eric www.harlowshillswestcoast.com
  9. You can graze Alfalfa after one good frost. You need to add soap to the sheep's salt for a week before you put them on. Then fill them up in the morning and turn them out after lunch or early evening. DO NOT USE DOGS ON THEM. Keep your dogs at home once they are on the Alfalfa, unless they are well broke. Even if your sheep start falling over from bloat DO NOT MOVE THEM OFF THE ALFALFA. Leave them alone. You will make is much worse if you try to move them once they start bloating. We graze feeder lambs on Alfalfa fields most of the winter and it is always a risk, but the gains outweigh the risk. Once ewes have lambed you can graze them on all the Alfalfa you want, you cannot bloat them. Good Luck, Eric "May the sheep be with you." www.harlowshillswestcoast.com
