  1. Both my adults have a VERY good recall, so hopefully I can teach her to aswell, so far she comes whenever you call her, and although she explores she is always willing to come at this point. I am taking her to her first class on November 23rd, Puppy socialization, so that should be fun and a good experience for her. Right now I think she is teething and wants to chew everything, including my hands if she can, so she's having to learn to be gentle and that poeple are off limits as far as rough mouthing is concerned.
  2. We just got a new border collie puppy on the 8th of November, her name is Pandora and she is 8 weeks old. She is my third border collie, my other two I got at 4 and 5 months and both were very laid back pups, my male was shy as a pup and I wouldnt have called either of them daring. Pandora is totally different, as soon as we got her to the house she was totally at home, she doesnt mind loud nosies or new places/experiences, she's very bold. She has lots of energy and seems to run and play more than sleep. She doesnt mind going and exploring on her own, but she will also run to us as soon as we call her and likes attention and playing with us. I'm just wondering what you think she will be like as an adult, I realize that only time can tell, but my other two were different from her as pups, although they were older when I got them. Is the family in for a more energetic, confident dog with this one?
  3. I have been thinking of adding another border collie to the family next year, and have been doing a little research for what health testing the parents should have. I know about the hips, but I'm a bit confused about the eyes. I've seen dogs tested for CEA (Optigen) and CERF, should a dog have one or both? and what is the main difference between them? Thanks Storm
  4. Thanks everyone I got a couple of pics uploaded to day so first here we are in the ring on Sunday getting the Title ribbon . . . and here is one of all his ribbons for the whole weekend and a cute one of Louie just because . . .
  5. Thank You Its something I've always wanted to do and it seems me and Lootah make a good team.
  6. I had my first ever dog show this Fri/Sat/Sun. Lootah was entered in Rally Novice A. Friday he got a score of 83 out of 100 and came third in his class. I messed up on a sign (didnt stop before moving on to the next) and cost us 10 points. Saturday was a hard course, but we got a 88 and came First in our class. He didnt sit on a front and cost us 10 points. Then today we got a 96 and came third in our class. first was a 98, second was a 97. With three legs he got his Rally Novice Title at our very first show. I am very proud of Lootah, we improved each day and he was very consistant. I never thought we would get a first place.
  7. Lol, I thought you might remember Kari. This place sure was a big help when I got Lootah as a first time border collie owner. Lootah always gets mistaken for a girl, and an aussie. Mostly people think Kari is some kind of mix, and lately people have been refering to her as a him, lol, so its nice to have somewhere to come where people know, yep thats a bc
  8. Thanks Lootah had his first supervised pet therapy visit today, and he did great for his first time, he really seemed to enjoy going around and visiting with the people.
  9. Well its been a long time since I posted on here, its been busy around here with horses, dogs and college. I dont know if anyone remembers me, this is probably more of a re-introduction. I found the boards when I got my first border collie, Lootah (now 2 years) and then added Sakari (now 18 months) to the family. Since then we have come a long way, both dogs got their Canine Good Citizen awards. Lootah took his pet therapy evaluation last saturday and did great, he now has to do two supervised visits and if he does well with those he becomes a pet therapy dog. We have taken several classes together, the last was a Rally class, and next month I will hopefully be competing in my and Loo's first Rally competition (Novice A), I'm excited and nervous, lol. I also just got his OFA hip test through the mail and they came back Good, so thats "good" news, lol. Kari is currently taking agility classes and doing great, we are going to keep going and see how things go, hopefully we will get good enough to show one day. I've never done any dog competitions before these two, so we are learning together, and these two have just been great, I love how quick they learn and how they really retain what I teach them, they have definitly made me a big BC lover . Ok, so now all the boring stuff had been said, lol (hope that wasnt TMI) here are piccies of the two . . . Yes, they are sat ontop of a round bale, lol.
  10. Lootah will be two this year (In may if I remember right) He can get a little frustrated with some of the agility equipment, but then other parts he loves, like the tunnel, lol. I think I will try doing both and see how it goes. I also have a 11 month old BC who I think will be alot better suited to agility, she's SOOO fast, but I thought it would be good to go through the training with Lootah first to get the hang of it. I will keep you updated on how he does when we start classes.
  11. Perhaps I should explain the classes and Lootahs history a little better. Loo has done a home manners class, then he did a basic obedience/agility class, and we just finished a public manners class where he got his canine good citizen award. The next agility class I want to take is a basic contacts class, adding on to what he learned in his first agility class, but without jumps, thats a seperate class. The rally class is called basic obedience/rally, I think its basically introducing you to rally, so I dont think it will be very hard, he's pretty good at all the basics already. And yes you are correct, these classes will be back to back, 15mins inbetween, but I live about 45mins away from the club, which is why I'd like them the same night. I dunno, I'm torn, I really think me and Loo would enjoy rally, but I also want to continue his agility training. I actually think he would do better at rally, and I like that its not as strict as the normal obedience trials, but ive always wanted to try agility, and even if he doesnt do well in competitions id still like to train him all the way and try.
  12. My border collie Lootah just passed his canine good citizen award, and I want to keep training him, he's already had a basic agility class, but in my last public manners class they introduced a little Rally, and I think Lootah could be really good at it. I'm just wondering whether to choose between agility and rally, and concentrate on just one (and then maybe do the other later) or I could take both classes at the same time (ive already looked at the class schedule and worked out the times, lol). Which do you think would be the best for Lootah? If it makes any difference he would be doing the agility class first (lthis will be a learning basic contacts class, jumps are a seperate class) at 6:00pm, and then the rally class at 7:15pm. Thanks Stephanie
  13. lol, I do get some funny looks when I tell people my dogs names sometimes, and almost always have to repeat them for people, but I like having a meaning behind the name too. Although I do think some dogs suite the more traditional names, there's a dog in my obedience class called Henry, and you can see it in his face, he totally looks like a henry, lol.
  14. Hmm, how about Airo/Aero? I love native American names, so here are a few of those too . . . BLY: tall CHITSA: fair KASA: Hopi name meaning dressed in furs." NINA: strong WEEKO: Sioux name meaning "pretty." YOKI: Hopi name meaning "rain." HURIT: Native American Algonquin name meaning "beautiful" KACHINA: Native American Hopi name meaning "sacred dancer; spirit." MANSI: Native American Hopi name meaning "plucked flower." NADIE: Native American Algonquin name meaning "wise." I'm probably the only one that likes odd names like that, lol, but there you go. My dogs are called Lootah (red) and Sakari (sweet), and I also have a horse called Tehya (precious) and one called Satinka (magical dancer) I try to pick them from meaning first and then see if I like the name.
  15. I was just using that as an example, lol, since Haleigh used to. honestly I have no idea what Indians would be best at if they HAD to do a certain job. Maybe make curry? lol. I'm English, but I have clue what we are suppost to be best at either, making tea and crumpets maybe? lol. Joking, joking, dont kill me, lol.
