Well, I think I am getting a puppy.....
hsnrs replied to D'Elle's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
So excited for you. I know Molly very well; also met Mandy. She is usually the stock handler at the trials. I love Mandy's Guiness. Let us know what you get from her and send photos. Molly and Mandy also have Aussies. My Sam is related to Molly's Gus. Hope we meet at some of the AZ events. We live in Willcox. -
Where did you get the shampoo? We are having the same problems with our Aussies. Nothing new around here. We do have inside and outside dogs. Might be from the cats; don't know.

When we had bottle babies it was hard for the dog to move them. THey were more like baby puppies and liked to ride in the golf cart. I think the lambs thought they were dogs too. Very stubborn and didn't necessarily stay with the person at all times.

Do you feed your dog/s at the table?
hsnrs replied to geonni banner's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
No I don't but hubby does. They get fed before we do and maybe afterwards for clean up duty. I hate it when a dog stares at me while I'm eating. Just me. -
We use hot dogs and never had that fail. Or else leftovers like chicken, steak, lunch meat. Just hide the pill inside. I used to use the pill down the throat method that also worked.

Storms coming throught tonight

Tight tee shirt? What's that for? -
We also watch CM and VS. They are interesting programs and to see all these clueless owners is truly amazing. Especially the one with the girls who were roommates letting their dogs go in the condo they were renting. Makes me glad we live in the boonies and that our dogs are able to be dogs.

You know you're watching too much TV when...
hsnrs replied to ejano's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
We also watch too much TV. Going to cancel and get Netflix and Roku. Anyone else have it? -

What is normal for a dog that is just starting?
hsnrs replied to mariosmom's topic in Training Discussion
You will love Vergil's book. We have also read Top Trainers Talk About Starting a Sheepdog and also enjoy the ideas. -
Thanks for bringing up this topic. We have a male Aussie who is skinny too. Won't oatmeal give him the runs?

Do barking dogs make you Crazy?
hsnrs replied to geonni banner's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
Our Aussies bark quite a bit too. Keesha gets a "shut" and Sam gets a "no bark." They don't always obey though. DH really hates the barking and yells at them which makes it worse. Luckily we live in the boonies so no one ever says anything. We have the best neighbors. -
Welcome. There are others from AZ here. Where are you located? There are lots of dog related activities in Tucson and Phoenix area when the time is right. You might want to check out the herding club. www.azherding.com.

Not really sure what the limit is here in the county but no one here cares. We have great neighbors.

Bought it several months ago and really enjoy the terms used in the book. Many were new to me. This book was referred to me at a clinic we attended in January.

Canine Good Citizen Test and the AKC
hsnrs replied to alligande's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
Our Aussie took and passed his CGC with a obedience trainer he had never met before and did not practice for. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. -
Happy Thanksgiving to All
hsnrs replied to DeltaBluez Tess's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. We are going to the neighbor's up the road for turkey and hopefully some homemade tamales. -
It is expensive to go with a trainer but well worth the money if you enjoy it. Obviously you don't want to hurt the sheep or get your dog injured either.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I do plan to get some basic commands on my dog outside our round pen and go from there. Kelpiegirl has offered to discuss this with me too. Thanks again. Narita

Am I being over-sensitive or is it my age?
hsnrs replied to Izzysdad's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
It really bothers me too. I refer to my girls as just that; or females; hardly ever the proper term. My DH says SOB lots around the house as his grandmom always said it and the family thought it was funny. I grew up in a very religious home and never heard that term in our house (other words that cut but not that one). Just a prude I guess. -
Totally agree about alternating the dogs and out of crate times. We have 2 females who don't get along and that is what we do. It is only for a few days so you can probably deal with it for that short amount of time. It is nice to have relatives for the holidays; ours don't travel so we must visit them which is hard. Enjoy.

That's great he is doing so well. We had a trainer working with our Aussie but she isn't now. How can I start training him myself? He and I are newbies and he is very aggressive on my semi dog broke sheep.

We have 2 Aussie girls who would kill each other if they got together. My male is very mellow around other dogs. If we get one of the girls spayed we are hoping they will get along better but not sure. Any experiences with this?

How many sheep do you usually train on?
hsnrs replied to Debbie Meier's topic in Training Discussion
We have some fairly wild Katahdin/St. Croix yearling ewe lambs and 3 ewes and a docile ram. Should we split this group up? We have Aussies who are also wild; not a good combo. Should we use the round pen (90 ft diameter); 60 ft diameter or one acre field to train?
