  1. Thanks everyone, since I am on a wellness plan (free visits) I think we will see the vet, but I will skip the bloodwork. I'd rather spend some of that saved $ on a tasty treat at the butcher. I had seen the dog recipes with almonds, but some of the sites made it sound like I fed them thalium or something. They are totally acting their normal doggie selves. I am still going to be a bit more cautious about people food though, I remember a little puppy of my neighbor's dying because he ate a marshmellow when I was growing up, so I had my 'inner 6 year old' freak out a bit. Thanks again~ Hayley (and Gus and Sally) eta-the puppy with the marshmellow thing was when I was really young, so he could have eaten a whole bag or something, that is just what I remember. Heck, it could have been hit by a car and that is the story my parents told me. It is hust one of those things that stuck in my head. Just wanted to clarify.
  2. Debbie clued me in after a Pm message. I knew about grapes, raisins, chocolate but I didn't realize almonds were bad for dogs. I already talked to the vet, and she said that the main thing is if the log is throwing up, loose stools, lethargy, no apetite, etc, which neither of the dogs are, but I am still taking them in tomorrow and probably run blood work. How freaking stupid was I?! Now the one good thing is they never got more than 1 at a time, and definately not more than 3 in a day, and not more than 2 times a week. I don't eat nuts that often, I had been packing them in my lunch recently and they are a nice snack. Grr. Anyways, I'm feeling like a very irresponsible dog owner, I printed out the dangerous foods list from Debbie and I'm going to keep it in my kitchen lest I decide to give the dogs non dog food/treats again. Has anyone else done this? I know Holly fed Rusty onions for years before she knew dogs shouldn't eat onions, but I am just sick worried, I love love love my dogs. My legs are tired from kicking myself
  3. I am so sorry to hear this, so sad.
  4. My house definately got cleaner when I got Gus. He was a little shark puppy for a while, I had to stock up on bully sticks and very yummy appropriate chews to keep him occupied. Are you crate training? That helped me when I couldn't watch him. I was so mad at myself when I left my new leather shoes in the living room- puppies love leather. You might do like you would if you were baby proofing a house. Crawl around on the floor and look for anything that you would be able to get a hold of. Anytime you pup starts finding something not approprieate to chew, give him something that is, and praise him. I would make an 'ehh-ehh' sound, very loud an clear if he would return to the forbidden item, give him the good toy and praise him. Bc's are smart, they just need to know how to make you happy.
  5. We do playdates with our friends dogs, although it is jsut in our backyards, it is fun for the pups to interact and get the zoomies out. All of our dogs are fixed, and we don't usually have more than 4, I think I had 5 at once and it was a bit too much. I have not been to a real dog park, I have a young child and playdates are just easier for me to handle.
  6. You gave them love, care and attention, and you did the right thing. I'm sorry you've been through this, take care.
  7. It was love at first site with Sally. There was just something about her picture, her face that I knew she was meant for us. We had been discussing getting another pup, but not seriously. I'm glad I followed my heart, because she really is our little princess now. You do what you know to be right. Sometimes it is letting someone else adopt them, but only you can evaluate that, kwim? Good luck with whatever you decide, this is a toughy.
  8. You might try a little of all the suggestions, have your pup on a leash and reinforce the training, crate some, and maybe a few days in day care. I take my pups to daycare every other week or so for socialization with other dogs, when it has been raining for several days in a row (Gus doesn't like going out in the rain) or just for fun. The staff love on them both and they just seem to enjoy it. I do exercise them myself, but variety is the spice of life, right? I'm sure it will all be fine, do what you think it best for all of you take care!
  9. I confess, I put a blue one on Gus and a pink one on Sally when we go out sometimes. Gus always gets called a "she" so it is my way of saying it's a boy. I think it also makes them look a little more approachable. I don't do it all the time but the dogs do associate it with a positive (going on a walk). I realize it is silly, but I'm silly. I do not leave it on them, and I tuck it so it stays on their back and it doesn't affect their gait. I also have bandana from dog scouts for Gus that we wear at troop meetings, but that is like uniform I hope Debbie doesn't take Sally away from me for unneccesary canine accessorizing
  10. LMBO (the b would be Badonkadonk) that is greatness!
  11. You could 1. -print out this thread, Well maybe specific posts or 2. Spray him in the mouth with bitter apple I have taken my shy Sally to petsmart daycare, but only after she looked a little more comfortable being in the store. Long walks can also help get some nervous energy out. I would take my pups on walks in the late evening so that there was less crowd around in the park. Good luck. My girl took awhile to come around, but my hubby actually likes her and was patient until she came out of her shell. She wasn't abused, but she is just a bit more reserved. I love her for that, since my other dog won't cuddle. This is my Gus, the non cuddler.
  12. I'm so glad you found her and got her back home! Thanks for caring for this girl.
  13. Thanks for spreading the word, Sammy is still out there somewhere. His fur parents are definately worried and missing him, but I told them not to give up hope yet. Feel free to crosspost. Thank you so much! Sammy was last seen at Lake Ray Hubbard on the Rowlett side near Chiesa and Lakeview Pkwy.
  14. UPDATE:Sammy has been Found!!!! A women in the neighborhood picked him up during the storm on Sunday, and called the Rowlett Shelter. The shelter contacted Richard and Sammy is being picked up now. I believe Sammy is going to get microchipped in short order, and they are going to get those tags back on him asap. They are very happy to have them home, and definately will make some changes so this won't happen again. I am posting this for a friend and fellow BC lover. Sammy took off yesterday, he only had his radio collar on, no tags. He was spoked by thunder and ran through a gate as his owner was walking in. Sammy is 2-5 years old, he lives right on the lake ray hubbard. He just got out yesterday. I am trying to attach a picture, if that doesn't work I will: Anfor more practical matters, I should tell them to contact the animal control, shelter, ?vets in the area?, put flyers up at petsmart and other pet stores in the area and the neighborhood? Any tips? I'm hoping for a safe quick return for sammy boy.
