    Flyboy

All of us are sadden to hear the news about Flyboy.
  2. Dixie offers her prayer of Thanks for all the special people helping her friends. God, during this Holiday of Thanksgiving I want to offer my thanks for the rescuers you have sent to help us. They search the highways and shelters for those of us in need. Whether lost or abandoned they seek us out. They strive to give us hope where there was fear and despair, to make us well where there was disease and injury, and to love us when all we felt was loneliness and rejection. They open their hearts and homes to us. Even among these special people there are those who go the extra mile. They accept the ones who are ill, maimed or old. They care for the sick, the invalid or the abused. They can not save us all but even those that pass on will have known the touch of kindness, the blanket of care and the warmth of love. Thank You Lord for the Rescuer. Dixie Belle

    Bute

Sue, All of us send our sympathy at Bute's passing. A heartfelt condolence from myself to Ed at his loss.
  8. You might try using pvc pipe. I used 1/2 inch pipe in combination with different joints to form a lite-weight frame over which I used a tarp.
  9. This time it's Lady collecting all the MOJO from the gang and sending it to Cheyenne.
  10. Just saw this. All the MOJO we got on it's way. Scout and Little Bit say keep the faith.
  11. A lot of you will remember Lady and her story. I have always felt she might have been someone's working dog, and lately she has been showing traits that have kept me wondering. When I let everyone out for the afternoon exercise at first she use to take off on her own, then she started staying close to us, and now she concentrates on the two pups. As they play and move around she circles them always facing inward. She seems to press in from one side to move them in the direction she wants. When it appears she has them where she wants she just stands motionless facing them with her head down and ears facing them. When they split up she'll let the one go and stay on the one in the space she has marked. If I am in the yard nearby she will sometimes look at me, so yesterday when She had them stopped and she looked toward me, I made a sweeping motion to the left. My jaw dropped as she immediately circled them to the opposite side, stopped and looked at me again. Unfortunately this is the only thing I can get her to do. What really puzzles me is she only started this in the last 3 weeks. Aren't they amazing? It doesn't matter if their young or old! No issues here I just wanted to share. Wish I was more experienced or she could talk.
  12. Kristen, as everyone has said it's hard to give advice when I have no knowledge of the property. On an established pasture in Georgia it would be no problem to pasture board two horses. The reason is our growing season and weather. However I know in some areas out west the requirement is much larger. As previously said it would help if you contact the county agriculture agent responsible for the area you want to move to. They should be able to advise you how many acres is needing to support a horse in that area. Be sure to factor in the sheep you want to keep when figuring what the land will support. Also have a boarding agreement that spells out resposibilities. Who provides supplemental feed (hay, grain, etc.), who is resposible for general care (bathing, farrier, worming, vacinations), and who is responsible for emergency vet care. In my boarding contracts I always have a clause where if in my opinion the horse needs vet care and I can not contact the owners I can call in a vet and the owner is resposible for the bill. Good luck and I hope it works out.
