  1. I called a local rescue about being a volunteer photographer since a local profressional photographer had told me they were looking for someone to fill that position. I called early last week, and still havn't heard back. It's been a while since I've done volunteer work (last time I did, it ended badly), so how long should I expect before I hear back from them?

I'm sorry for your loss, Sue.
  3. What a wonderful video - it shows the bond between David and Holly perfectly. Great job, Denise.
  4. To show the outline of the jaw better? I have no idea really. It's just the first thing that came to mind. lol
  5. I have a "Border Collies, The Only Breeder 'That'll Do'" magnet on my car's bumper. Next I want a crouching border collie sticker, like the one Laura posted.
  6. Thats what I thought, too. But it's a cute movie.
  7. Lizzie didn't like her nails being trimmed, either. Actually it got so bad that I *couldn't* trim her nails. But that was my fault, as I didn't mess with her paws at all when she was a pup. Anyways, I started from the beginning. Treating her while touching her foot. Once she was comfortable with that, then I would treat her for letting me hold/mess her foot. After doing that, I would treat her for being near the Dremmel. Then treat her for being near the dremmel when it was on. Then, gradually, treating her for letting me hold her paw with the dremmel near/touching her nail -note the dremmel is still off. After she was okay with that, I'd treat her for letting me hold her paw with the dremmel on - not touching her nail. Finally, I am now able to trim her nails by myself with little fight from her. And I always make sure she's treated after it (as with cleaning her ears, which again we had to do alot of the same steps as written above but for her ears). Her very, very high value treat for nail and ear cleaning is a spoon of Peanut Butter, and boy does she know what she's getting - and she won't let you forget to give it to her, either!
  8. Wow, everyone clips nails often! Blaze didn't need his clipped but once every couple months when he was younger because we spent alot of time walking on pavement roads, but since they've started doing alot of construction in that area we've started trimming more often. I also use a dremmel, unless the dog's nails are too long. Then I will trim, then dremmel.
  9. Kris, Blaze has only had one Rabies vaccine as he only turned a year old in February. I'm pretty sure it was the one year vaccine since it's requird it to be done once a year.
  10. My male (15 months old) is 40lbs. His sire was 45lbs, if I remember correctly.
  11. That's great! One question, though. Blaze is suppost to get his rabies shot in June. Does this mean I can wait 2 more years, so it will have been 3 years total since his last rabies vax?
  12. That's what I found out most of the time, too. It's usually not the dog, it's ME not 'getting it' or doing something right.
  13. I second Journey. Blaze did the same thing to his eye a few months ago -it looked just like the pictures you posted of Ouzo's eye. It was a piece of grass on his eye, but if it had stayed their any longer, it would have eaten the Cornea away in a matter of hours/days.
  14. Haha, yup, isn't Juno Feb. 11th? Blaze is the 10th.
  15. Yeah, we aren't actually sure of her real date since she's a rescue. I just did some simple calculations baised on how old the shelter said she was. Happy belated birthday to Sophie!
  16. Lizzie is 5 years old today! And that doesn't seem possible Doesn't seem like we've been together for 5 whole years. She's a special dog, she was my first dog, she was the one who got me interested in dog training and agility, she was the one who went to my first training classes with me. She was the one who, even with every thing I did wrong with her (and Lord knows it was alot), she didn't let all the wrong stop her, she is a good dog and taught me alot. She's the only dog that we can both look deep into each others eyes and I see complete love and trust. Even though she doens't give 100% back to me, theres something about her that makes you come back to her everytime. Happy 5 years, Izzy Girl. The only puppy pictures I have of her - I know, bad of me for not taking more! In her puppy crate, that has been used for 3 other pups now. You can see she's so young that her tail isn't even fluffy yet.
  17. Hope it's neither of those two things, Wendy. Vibes and prayers for Dinah.
  18. Oh my gosh, that looks extremely painful! I'd be going to the vet if she's got multiple ones.
  19. I've read that it means the dog is. . .like marking his territory. . .but with scents from his paws. Don't quote me on that, though, as I just quickly read over it in a book I was reading. My female does the same thing.
  20. It was a great article, Becca and Elieen!
  21. I can't really be called a 'new member' since I've been here since 2007 But I've got lots to learn still.
  22. I know I don't post that many -if any!- imformative posts, but I do ask alot of newbie questions. . .and I'm grateful to all who have expanded my knowledge! Thank you, board memebers!
  23. Is it nessessary? Blaze gets out, sees new people, dogs, and places. Should I be concerned if he doesn't get that vax when he goes in for his rabies shot in June? Then I've got another dog who hasn't been vax'ed for that in a while and she's never had problems with KC (she gets out, too), but our other dog who has been vax'ed, had problems with KC. And, of course, my vet is pushing for it every year. -sorry! more questions about vaccinces-
