  1. I'll look into that if the cover doesn't work. Thanks
  2. How much do you use each feeding? I'm not sure I could ever bring myself to spend that much for kibble.
  3. Thanks for the suggestions! I might try a 32" again. They have a crate cover at Wal-Mart thats pretty cheap, so I might try that before I buy a new crate since the crate he has now is fine except for the rattling.
  4. What size plastic crate is a good size for a regular sized Border Collie? I had a 32" one, but he didn't fit. I then got a soft sided crate that was one size bigger, and he only uses half of it (but it's no longer an option since said dog decided it would be fun to chew a hole through it ). Now I'm wondering if a 32" would be fine? Also, has anyone found a way to reduce crate rattle with a wire crate? Would a cage cover help?
  5. If the dog is sinking her head and getting alot of water in her ears I would dry them, then put whatever ear cleaning solution you use in her ears. Our ear cleaning solution is alcohol baised, so it dries all the water up in the dog's ears.
  6. Tommy, I assume from your original post, that your border collies work on your farm? I cold be wrong, I haven't read through the whole thread. Just skimmed over.
  7. Thats worth a ---> On a more serious note, I agree with Lenajo. I've been in the boat where you have two pups of relatively the same age, different breeds, and if you are not completely careful (and even then things happen) it usually doesn't end very well. Thankfully after alot of headaches and tears, a neuter and LOTS of training/correcting bad behaviors, both dogs get along fine now. But if I could go back and do it again, one pup would have waited.
  8. I would have done the same thing with my dog. He is sensitive to correction, too.
  9. I'm so sorry, Anna. What a good dog. Rest in pease, Lucky.
  10. Thanks for the information! I went to my first Ultimate Air Dogs event yesterday and I'm hooked! Lol. I think Blaze would love it, so we're going to use a friend's dock later this week and see what happens. He knows how to swim, he's just never jumped off something into the water before. I do have a couple questions. I'd be training on my own. Is there anything to teach him besides jumping off the dock? Oh I have pictures from the Splash Dogs. This was PWD. It wasn't his dog, he was helping it out because it was, to say the least, having a hard time swimming and getting out. This Aussie was his dog. This little dog. Was. Wow. Full of spunk to say the least! She was awesome and really nice. But a hand full. Okay, so first her owners start by letting her walk up the ramp to check out the water and all that jazz. Then her owners take her up to the dock, and she just kind of slides/jumps in. Then she swims to the ramp. Well next time. . .the dog is on the dock, jumps off, swims to the ramp, jumps OUT of the pool off the ramp (probably 4.5ft) slides to a stop, RUNS around the pool and somehow manages to get back IN the pool from the other side. ROFL! It was hilarious!! This lab was AWESOME! He jumps by FAR the furthest! He was so happy, he'd run up, over and down the ramp. Run up to the deck where his owner was, and jump around him wagging his tail. Ready to go! This is the same Lab, but different type of Splash Dogs. I think it was called "Catch It" where the dog has to jump up and grab the toy before hitting the water. Running up the ramp to go back to the deck with his owner. Same Lab He caught it! Quite a few times, actually! These were just practice runs or alot of Frisbee and Flyball people letting their dogs cool off.
  11. Thats good! You'd probably make a fortune if you could make a movie out of that, tho.
  12. I love Izzy! If I ever have a red, I want him/her to be marked like Izzy.
  13. Dock Diving looks like alot of fun. And Blaze loves to jump in the water after a toy. I'm just casually looking into it right now. There is a competition coming up soon about 45 minutes away so I think I might go check it out. Does anyone have any information about it, any one compete? Do you have to do alot of training before competing? How do you get started? And any other general information you have about it would be awesome.
  14. I'm curious, what dogs foods are you talking about?
  15. Haha, I didn't know that. I *sooo* wanted Blaze to have standy-upy (my mom named them that ) ears when he was younger, but now I dont care, I actually like his crazy ears.
  16. I'd teach her a 'Leave It' type command. After she knows the command, if a car is coming and she's going into that mode of stalking the car, I would say your "leave it" command and QUICKLY turn and walk in the other direction. Snapping her out of that chasing cars mode. Or you can get her attetion with treats while a car is passing and then treat her for watching you instead of the car. What I mean is take a treat in your hand and let her nibble bites off while a car/bike is passing so her attetion is totally on getting that treat. Showing her that it's more rewarding to watch/be with you rather than chase a bike or car. As for the lunging at cars IN the car, I would first try the crate. If she lunges at a car or barks, in the crate I would ignore it at first and see what happens. If that didn't work, I might try a sqirt bottle of water. If she lunges or barks, I would say "no" and give a squirt (don't sqirt her directly in the face, tho, just so it gets her attetion. But if she likes the squirt bottle that really wouldn't work I might try a can of pennies then). Some may not agree with that, but it's worked for my guys before. I would suggest you wait till she's atleast 12 months old before you run 3 miles. That seems like alot on a growing body. This is just what's worked for me and my dogs. I'm sure others will have better suggestions, though.
  17. I don't know, either. So I'm interested in hearing the suggestions. I don't know how big you can get a Cuz, but that is the only thing my guy hasn't torn up yet.
  18. My guys have been on TOTW, EVO, and Dog Lover's Gold before and they all did well.
  19. Don't worry Finn, Blaze would be right there with you.
  20. I don't remember exactly when he started doing it. But these were taken at 10 and 12 weeks old.
  21. I love puppy Stevie. Same crazy ears as Blaze. Glad to see you here!
  22. I emailed them at first, proably 2-3 weeks ago, including some of my work. No reply. Then I called them. It did say they had a volunteer application, but when I opened it it didin't bring up anything. So I just called the volunteer coordinator.
  23. I've never been to a dog park, but what I've read about them from some people scares the crap out of me about DPs. We don't have a dog park here, either. But if I want my dogs to play off lead with other dogs I'd much, much rather do it with some I know and respect and someone who knows their dogs. I was at the lake/beachy area with Blaze a few weekends ago, and it was pretty busy so Blaze and I walked down a little further away from everyone. This lady comes over with her boxer-looking dog and asks if Blaze is friendly, which I reply yes. Both dogs are off leash, so since my dog is intact and off leash, I ask if her dog is intact. To which she replies "What is that?". I then ask if her dog is spayed. "No..." I politely told her I didn't want my dog playing with her dog, since I didn't know anything about her dog, and she honestly looked very confused about the whole conversation. That said, I don't use DP's, simply from what I've read - and I have other places that I can take my dog. But if someone has found a DP that suits them and no dogs are getting hurt, it's fine with me.
