  1. I think what you are doing is fine. Anda has a good suggesten to, about having her watch another dog. I've had Lizzie watch others dogs before and she'll catch on pretty quick. Also, be carful since she's just a puppy and a few big waves could pull her under easily.
  2. My BC mix is having the same problems. What I decided to do is just put off practicing and classes till about October(we live in the south where it's been 100+ and humid each day), we still do a jump/tunnel here and there but nothing major. I've tried spraying her off completely, having a full pool for her, and water in her bowl. But she just doesn't tolerate the heat any. Then she just started shutting down because it wasnt fun since it was so hot out. So that's when I chose to just wait for cooler weather. Also, in my case, I started training about 2 months before it started getting really hot, so I'd rather start in the cooler weather so she learns to enjoy it without the heat, then when it does get hotter she will already have been trained on everything.
  3. Totally agree. I see no point in breeding dogs just to make them "test dummies" It's sick and wrong
  4. What a cutie! Congratulations! I agree with the BC/Spaniel.
  5. Great shots! Beautiful dog
  6. Very good info from everyone. I'll just add what worked for Lizzie and I, is that every time they come, give a treat of some kind. And ALWAYS make coming to you fun, never give your dog a bath after calling him to you or clip his nails, clean ears, or do any form of punishment. And practice! Practice everyday, every walk...ect. Something else that helped us greatly is doing very simple recalls from her on one side of the house and me on the other and just calling her then rewarding her with lots of treats and praise. No distractions execpt normal in-the-house-stuff. Worked wonders for her recall. Also, never let him offleash (in an unfenced area) that you can't reneinforce the recall. Good Luck!
  7. We use Canidae ALS here, too. Dogs are doing fine on it. But I would love to try Orijen, but it's not anywhere near me.
  8. Maybe try adding some Cottage Cheese, Egg, or Yogurt to her dry kibble.
  9. A food called Orijen is made in Canada, but is slowly making it's way to the states. It is a food that is 70% Meats and 30% Fruits and Veggies. It's really nice quality...one of the best IMO. I can't wait to feed it when it makes it's way into the US.
  10. I was very suprised too, to find out that Innova would even go near Menu Foods plant. But Timberwolf will not tell where their foods are made. I sure hope Orijen comes to the states soon.
  11. Could it be that she is in some kind of pain? I agree with Kat's Dogs that maybe she is just bored.
  12. Len, thanks! I will look into that book. I am responing to your PM right now.
  13. Are there any sheep herding (trialing, how to train for herding, ect) that you would recommend? I currently do not have a border collie, and it will probably be about 3 years before my pup is born, but I would like to learn a lot from now and then. I want to do Agility, Therapy work, and Herding with this puppy. I am currently doing Agility with my other dog, Lizzie. Any other information would be great too!
  14. Ooo! let us know how it goes OB classes are SO fun, especially when you get to advanced work!
  15. Heheh, I am totally in luv with Agility now It's awsome! And I can't wait till I get better equipment! *which hopefully will be some time this week* Thanks!
  16. Thank you Kat! Okay! Wendy is a GREAT trainer, she is positive only trainer. She has at least 12 Border Collies, and 2 Great Perenice(I know that is not spelled right) for guarding the lambs from the coyotes and vultures. Max just LOVES the lambs, and people, he's a big baby. And Izzy, she is about the same age as Lizzie, a BC, and she does herding and Agility. She is AMAZING at agility! She does a FAST A-Frame, Dog Walk, and Jump. She LOVES the A-frame and Dog walk. And it really helped Lizzie do the A-Frame. Lizzie had LOTS of trouble with it in the beginning but then we lowered it and took it VERY slow, made her sit infront of it, then slowly walk up, and then she took to it imediantly. And then she was going over a Jump, then A-Frame, then the Tire Hoop(not sure if that is the right word or not) And I can't remember the name of the dog that was in these pics But she was just starting agility like Lizzie. She was the very "you dogs have to have manners" kinda dog. But she was VERY sweet, and I got to work her on the weave poles with, Wendy. And she was a joy to work with, and acted a lot like Lizzie. Hehe, Lizzie LOVED the sheep! She saw one, I think it was a male, and she just stood there eyeing it, and watching it VERY closely. And she was very interested in the goats, couldn't figure out WHAT they were lol All of Wendy's Border Collies Herd everyday. And 4 of them do agility. She has TONS of sheep and then goats. Right now she has about 22 baby lambs, they were sooooo cute! Her Borders were super cute, and were VERY drivey, and I got to see one work the goats by the agility area that we were in, he was AMAZING And then the *the dog I can't remember her name* was eyeing sheep when Wendy showed us her sheep and goats and lambs. She would stare at them....Wow! And rather than fill up the thread with pics, I will make it easy and give you the link to all the pics and vids! Videos and Pictures
  17. Hey everyone! I know I haven't posted much. But anyways, Lizzie and I go for our first agility class tomorrow! We go for a 2 hour class for the same price as a one hour class, since she ask me to help with her dogs while she runs them. I can't WAIT to go! I am very excited lol I may have pics, if my mom can work the camera, we will have pics and vids!
  18. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, LARK!! Hope you have great day! heheh OMG, he is soooooo cute! I love his markings!
  19. Thanks for posting this, because Lizzie does this some times and I didn't know if it was serious or not...thanks! Lizzie does almost the exact SAME as said above.
  20. I read this on another forum, ((( Hugs ))) That's Great, I'm so happy for you all! I am sure Ben is very happy to be back with his family!
  21. I agree with others, why is your dog barking? I am strongly against any kind of "collar" that Zaps, sprays, shocks ect. They are not teaching the dog any thing except that when they do some thing that they do NOT know is wrong, they get shocked. And I really would not use one on a BC. IMHP.
