  1. If I remember, I think there is a picture on Border Collies in Action about how to properly hold the whistle in your mouth. I'll try to find it. . . ETA: found it. I don't know if it will help, but I did help me http://www.bordercollies.com/shopcontent.a...tleinstructions
  2. Happy Birthday! I'm so glad you're happy with her - I know how much you have wanted a border collie.
  3. Echoing what Anda and Lenajo have said. I know you can't control what the child does and he was not supposed to be riding his bike in the dog park, but you can control your dog, and it's just putting your dog at risk of being PTS for biting a child - even if the child deserved it.
  4. Thanks guys - makes me feel better. He needs to go to the vet sometime this week for his rabies shot, so I'll talk to them about it for if/when I decide to have him snipped.
  5. I'm debating whether or not to have Blaze neutered, but one of my concerns is the post surgery care. The vet makes all dogs stay over-night after surgery. I don't have a concern with this, but my concern is no one is there with him through the night. He will just be in a cage with an e-collar on I assume. I've never been confortable with this, what if he somehow rips his stitches out and bleeds during the night? No one will be there to do anything till the morning. Is this a valid concern? Is it normal to have dogs stay over-night with no one to watch them?
  6. Haha about the foster thing - that's what everyone asked my when I had my foster lab. Adore those big prick ears!
  7. I have no advice to add, but wanted to say good luck and I hope she resonds positively to you working with her!
  8. Our dogs have had the same problem that Laurelin mentions. Frontline Plus hasn't worked in this area for a year or so now; I've heard this from other dog/cat owners, too. We switched to K9 Advantix and haven't had any flea problems in a while.
  9. Thanks for posting. It was a good read!
  10. Dumb question probably.... You mean like. . .a clicker that you click/treat with? I've been wanting to ask that since the thread was started.
  11. I find myself thinking the same thing more and more lately when people ask how Blaze is doing. I cringe everytime I say 'herding' sounds so. . .fake to me. But I don't know what else to call it.
  12. I agree, Blaze went through it. But I'd never heard anyone call Aussie or Border Collie pups 'holy terrors' and I didn't think the pups I've seen have been like that. Maybe I'm totally warped.
  13. I feel the same way about our Beagle.
  14. On another board a member was saying that Aussie and Border Collie pups, from about 11 weeks to 7 months, are 'holy terrors'. Do you consider Border Collie pups to be holy terrors? I've only been around a few Border Collie pups, but I never considered them a holy terror. I know they usually go through a 'lost your brain' stage, Blaze did. But I never considered him to be a holy terror when he was pup and I enjoyed his puppyhood alot - we learned alot and had tons of fun together.
  15. My working bred Border Collie doesn't 'give' the eye to anything other than sheep/balls/toys. But my show-bred Beagle will do it to other dogs.
  16. Thanks for the suggestions on what to bring! Yes, actually I could, probably something like my mom's... The place mom is looking at isn't exactly what I call 'rustic' accomidations. Pizza delivered to your tent and cappuccinos in the morning? Not my idea of camping...
  17. Re When: Sept 21, thru 29th, 2010. Taken from this website - http://www.usbcha.com/08%20-%20sturgis%20b...s%20meeting.htm I'm looking forward to going to my first Finals!
  18. Yes, I'm thinking it might be a good idea for both dogs to have orange reflective collars/leashes.
  19. We're going camping at the end-ish of November and we're taking the 2 young dogs (guess I can't call them pups anymore since they're almost 2! ). What are some good things to bring? Anything that isn't normally 'though of' when taking a trip/camping? TIA!
  20. There is a post in the 'Under The Handler's Tent' section that has a thread with a link to the most current scores. http://www.bordercollie.org/boards/index.p...=25814&st=0 Hope that helps.
  21. I'm sorry to hear that about Jin. I hope he heals quickly. Blaze used to be very bad about stepping in front of me causing me to step on his paw. Thankfully he stopped that quickly. I was always worried that I would accidently cause his leg harm because he was doing that.
  22. I've been thinnking about this, and I think the best thing I can do right now is learn all that I can. Learn more about the breed, how to train dogs/Blaze for stock work, and anything else that will help me in the future to educate others about this wonderful breed.
  23. He's very gorgeous, and his ears look velvety soft! I hope he works out for you and is everything you wanted in your next dog.
