  1. Im really sorry to hear that. I know much he meant to you guys.
  2. Riven isnt happy to wait or something. She BARKS loudly the entire time. When we come back she's panting up a storm and all worried. I wish we had a van that would be great. If I had the money to talk to a behaviorist, I'd be there in a heartbeat. However with just me working we barely make enough to scrape by at the moment, I cant even do agility And you are right that it is me she reacts to leaving the most, but recently she's been spending more time with my hubby, even if Im at home, so I figured she was getting used to him being around all the time. Now I just dont know.
  3. I wish I could take her to work, but I work the front desk of a hotel, so it really isnt an option. With summer coming, and no a/c in our car I would rather clean up pee than risk her getting sick in the car while my hubby job searches, or we shop ect. The problem is that we can be gone 5 minutes and she will go. It doesnt have to be a big trip or anything. Hubby can just leave to take me to work, be back 10 min later and she'll have gone. The other day he walked into 2 HUGE piles of poo, and she had just been outside for like 30 minutes but never went.
  4. Hi all!!!! It has been forever it seems since I was here. Let me recap who I am for those of you who dont remember or know. I am Donna, I have a BC mix, Rivendell. She was left for dead in a fenced yard in the dead of winter and nearly died. We believe she has been abused, and she has extreme seperation anxiety. But despite all that she is the sweetest dog, incredibly loving, and I couldnt begin to ask for anything better. Until about 3 months ago. When we got Riven in Feb 06, I was a housewife, and my husband worked a lot. We spent all our time together, we'd camp, ect and last year even began agility. My husband lost his job in February and I had to get one. So now roles reversed and my husband David is home with her a lot of times while I work. With her seperation anxiety, she would randomly tinkle in the house if we didnt take her out immediately before we left. But now she has taken to pooping in our room on MY clothes, peeing on my clothes ect, even if we have just taken her out. If I close the bedroom door, she will go in the living room. We made a vet appt, she is fine as far as health wise, we have checked the back yard for stuff and nothing, so I know its a behavioral issue. So this updates you to a few days ago. (Also I thought Id be tricky and exercise it out of her, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.) Curious to see what she does instead of doing her business, I watched her from inside when I let her out. She walked out onto the porch and laid down. Did not even attempt to go pee, didnt even walk off the porch!!! So I stepped outside and said "GO PEE" in my I mean business voice. She marches out into the yard and pees this enormous puddle then comes back. This senario has been repeating itself daily. Unless I phycially babysit her and tell her to pee she will hold it and wait till we leave. I thought I would be smart and put her in her crate when we leave. She pee'd all over herself. Partly from anxiety, and partly cause she's been holding it Im sure. So, there you have it. I dont know what to do, why she is acting this way. Can a dog protest like this? We are seriously considering buying some sort of anxiety medication, but Im afraid to hurt her. I remembered someone saying theres a medicine that makes them seem ok, but actually they are still messed up inside, but too drugged to react? Anyone have a clue what I should do? For those of you who remember Rohan and Arwen, they are just great. I made a new video of the three of them a few days ago if you'd like to see it.
  5. No!! That stinks so much. Buddy was adorable, and Im so sorry he's gone. Im glad he was with you, he wasnt alone, and Im so happy he knew what it was to be loved and cared about before he died. Thanks so much for takin the old man in, and loving him.
  6. I dont have time to read all replies, but Riven does sleep with me. I cant imagine her not being there actually lol. She is warm, cuddly and she lets me lean on her a bit when my back starts acting up and there is no position comfortable enough to lay in normally. She's a good dog Now... if I could just get her to flippin quit shedding her black hair on my light green sheets....
  7. I dont think that sounds stupid! If I hit Riven on accident (which happens frequently - I am usually asleep and aiming for Rohan for biting me), I immediately, say sorry or something and love on her. IMMEDIATELY. Just so she understands everything is ok. I honestly think they know if it was an accident if you just act like you're sorry immediately. I wouldnt worry much, dogs forgive pretty easily. She just has to trust, and as long as you dont try to force it, it will happen, likely sooner rather than later!
  8. Rivendell weighs 42 lb. She is a mix though, so dunno if you wanted mixes
  9. lol I still love it! I have watched it a few times and every time I laugh.
  10. That is like Arwen!! I got groceries the other day and set them on the counter. Walked outside, grabbed more bags and brought them in. In just that time, Arwen had jumped on the counter pulled the steaks from the plastic grocery bag, opened it, knocking a glass into the sink and breaking it. She was happily munching on steak when I came in!! I could have shot her lol. Then, I am making hubs a quilt for Christmas and she merrily decides to attack all the squares on the bed and mix them all up. I had to redo the pattern because her furry butt messed it all up We have nicknamed her Destructo. She is worse than a dog because she fits on a counter and is lightening fast. She tries to eat off my plate no matter how many times I push her away. She even ran across hubby and swiped her paws in his potatoes and gravy and happily ate it off her paw. Such a bad little kitty lol
  11. Wow! Has it been a year already??? Happy Gotcha Day !!!!!!!
  12. Ok this is wierd. I saw the cat outside again. I brought it to my friend, and she's like how did she get out? I was like I dunno, she's like that isnt the same cat. I said yes it is. She opened the door and goes... no, thats Hannah... Hannah was on the chair sleeping. There was another nearly identical kitten. So she took that one, but Im sure her hubby is gonna be upset about it. We may have to take it to the shelter But they have a daughter who doesnt have an animal, the other 2 do, so maybe they'll keep it. Anywho... wierd. But they're both litter box trained! They have to have been someones cats and they just let them out.
  13. Rivendell is doing good actually. I expected to be woke up last night with her needing out ASAP, but she slept all night. Arwen kicked her off the bed as usual, but she snuck back on and I woke up half laying on her lol. She's so adorable. To top it off she is a horrible wretch of a woman and it is impossible to even speak to her, much less try to ask her to quit supporting animal overpopulation. We are going to get some wormer for the kitty her daughters named "Hannah Pudders Johnson" (hannah montanta and my nickname for Rohan), and whatever else is needed. Here's some pics
  14. LOL BoPeep.. That carcuss is still in the trash if you'd like it for later Well, the vet says Rivens digestive enzymes are messed up and they gave me some funky liquid stuff to give her called Probiocine SA. Then pills to help her stomach calm down called Metronidazole. She is acting fine, just running outside to poo nothing but squats like she is trying. You know I was all open to new foods until Rohans Felidae issue. I havent ever had an issue with SD diet and honestly, I believe it saved Rohans life as a kitten, and again now. I guess my thoughts on it are dont fix it if it isnt broke. I know you probably disagree heavily, but as Im the one paying almost $1000 in vet bills for switching from SD to something *I* thought was better, I'll stick with what works. I dont mean that nearly as snippy as it sounded. On a side note, when I got back there was a little black kitten down the sidewalk and I thought nothing of it. There is a lady here we refer to as the dragon lady and she has a bajillion outdoor cats, but they're all feral and not fixed... ARGH. Anywho this little kitten comes tearing across the street and right at me, blazes past Riven and is like begging me to pick her up. I mean this is a LITTLE kitten, cant be more than 3 or so months old. I know my hubby would shoot me where I stood if I got another cat right now. I picked her up and went to my friends house across the street. I was thinking holy crap what am I gonna do with this adorable little kitty. I walk in the door and I was like "Rachel, look what I found". She comes over to me, grabs the cat and says "I claim her". Well, fast forward 20 minutes later. Rachel has a litter box w/cat litter, wet and dry food, and has fallen in love with this little kitten. Her hubby said she could keep it, and she has 3 little girls who will be SO excited when they come home from school. It was awesome. She looks gangly, like she hasnt been taken care of, she ate like she hasnt eaten in months. Her tummy is a bit big, so I told her she needs to have her checked for worms.
  15. Well I was feeding her raw till about a week ago. She for some reason developed an issue with poultry. We can not afford to feed her a raw diet if chicken isnt part of it. So we went to Science Diet kibble. I know I know it sucks, but I live an hour from any major dog food sellers, and after my issue with Rohan and Felidae Im not so sure Science Diet is horrible. Anyway, so she is on kibble, but I dont feel it would be comforting to eat with an upset tummy. Kind of like cereal for food poisoning in humans is what I am thinking. I could be way way off though. I dont think I could get her to eat rice. If I just pass on feeding her tonight, would that harm her at all? Would all that ick still pass if she doesnt have stuff to pass it with? Would it do more bad than feeding kibble?
  16. Long story short, Riven got a 10 day old turkey carcass from the trash outside. She has been having issues with poultry making her gassy lately, so add to that eating a rotten turkey. I did catch her before she ate a lot (I think). But this morning she is shaking, gassy, runny poo ect ect. I called the vet and she has an appointment in an hour. They have meds to give her but she has to be seen first. Im sick of seeing the vet, but at least it isnt Rohan this time. Anyone have any ideas what I should be feeding her tonight? I know the vet will say Science Diet. I had heard like cooked chicken breast or something is soothing, but she's got poultry issues lately so I wont give her chicken. I imagine she must feel like what its like to have food poisoning and that is no fun. Thank God she acts somewhat normal in terms of energy. She isnt lethargic or anything. Im blabbing on...
  17. First dog as a child: I didnt have a dog till I was 19 First dog as an adult: Rottie named Tyler Why a BC? I didnt know anything about BC's. Riven was there, I knew she was meant to be ours, and found out later she was BC Did you do research? obviously not lol First BC Rivendell What made you want to get another? Not sure I want another BC unless its a lower drive What have you done with your dogs? Advanced Obedience and Agility How many BC's? One. How many do you have now? One. What "quirks" have you noticed with all your dogs? They all want to sleep with me but thats dogs in general I think City dog or country dog? City Would you ever get another breed? Probably. I'd still like a pug or boxer. Hubby wants an english bulldog (blah lol)
  18. Oh Im so sorry. Please give her lots of hugs and kisses for me. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
  19. Miz always good to see you. Boy looks absolutely adorable and comfortable! Riven would be mega excited and go wild with that funky tail.
  20. I can relate to this in a way. I would love love love another dog. But the more time goes by with just Riven, the more I think that I can not possibly love another dog as much as her. But also that I cant imagine forcing her to share me with another animal that will want my attention as much as she does. The cats are easy cause...well.. they're cats. They only care about me if I dont feed them LOL. But a dog would want the bedtime cuddles, the couch snugglies, ect. I am having trouble giving Riven what I feel is adequate attention right now just because of Rohan bein sick and Arwen and Rohan having regular tiffs. So I know where you're coming from. Oh and as for poo.. raw diets are your best friend when you have to pick up poo. After a few days they turn white and blow away...much like a ghost pooo lol
  21. You read my mind. So glad he's with your mom now. I cant wait to see pics
