It's so good to hear your guys progress with your dogs. With the 20 total we had only 2 that are failing to connect. The ones that are in homes are doing great. The 7 that are still with us 1 needs a high energy home with lots of directions. She was wild from the start and she was way too much for an a pet adopter. 2 poss 4 are ready for special needs type adoptions they are needing understanding homes who will encourage them. They prefer to still be somewhat invisible if they can. The other 2 are different not willing to accept humans. 1 will tolerate it if you can catch him. The other takes 2 people to try to get him if get away in the large yard which is often and really doesnt care to be part of the dog pack. Routine is not for him. Does your guy stick his tounge out between his teeth? almost all our dogs do that. It's pretty endearing in a way. Originally I thought they had undershot jaws but, they dont.

2 thirds of ours are done already without an specific trauma. The red merle who is so frightened and is probably the dog in the crate in the new video I found was scared but, was greatful to come home. He recognized it as a safe place. I'm also interested in you saying kelso drinks normally to less. Our drink like they may never see water again. It's improving but, for the first few days it was incredible.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You wrote a beautiful memorial for him.

I was just watching Ramseys kitchen nightmares where the resturant was buying lamb at tesco and said that they injected it with something numbered that I didnt catch to preserve it. I would think a dog causing stress would be less than processing chemicals in the meats in affecting meat and taste.

We still have Gypsy from the swafford raid and she is improving able to move forward and her anxiety circles are much bigger. Oringinally I coulndt figure out how she stayed up there were so small and fast. I've begun walking her off the property and I've taken her for car rides when the weather allows. My question is do i allow her to spin around me while we are walking? They are big cirlces and they arent problematic but, they are still her comfort circles. When cars came I put her in a stay. She was doing well with that but, she would make the big circles around me every once in a while while we were moving forward up the road. What would you do?

I'm sorry but, I have to get on the no jack band wagon too. I had one I had to rehome due to many reasons one being she was female dog agressive. She had been spayed since the min I got her which should have been 6 months but, she has had real anxiety problems. She was good with kids though. My mom had a male who was voted most likely to be killed by another dog. He never backed down from a fight and loved the excitement of starting one. He reminded me of bevis of the bevis and butt head cartoon. He'd shake and almost vibrate over the excitement. He also had a number of Bites under his belt. (also Neutered from 5 month). I'm not saying you couldnt manage one but, there are so many other mixed puppies with wire hair available that would totally suit your family and meet the energy and nonshed factor. Our rescue always has tons of all sizes. My favorite dog of all time was a wire hair basset mix. He lives with a family locally and he is a total doll.

Unique behavior of Moscow's stray dogs

Anda did people in a sense rescue by finding homes for the puppies born on the street to the street dogs? Or was it more common to purchase a pure bred dog? -

Anda I'm surprsed those dogs look so diverse. Ferral dogs in america seem to favor smooth coat. It makes me remember being a kid 30+ years ago when everyone dog walked around town and you knew the dogs names and petted them. You could tell when there was a dog in heat in town as one person hound walked miles to get there. He was always there too. "oh, look there goes mazurik's hound dog"lol -

This is one of the stories I found but, not the show. They showed where the kids were living, talked to the neighbors who might have seen the kids. This article says this boy was there since 3 months. I find that hard to imagine or believe but, a toddler I could see. http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/imported...m-13674973.html -

I watched a special on Tv but, it was the middle of the night most likely BBC I think, about the wild dogs taking in small children and keeping them alive and later using them to help gather food for the pack. They had 3 kids who were pulled back into society and the topic was discussing their lives with the pack and the rehabilitation since they only knew the dogs from a very young child. one was only a toddler. -
I hate to say I told ya so but...

I'm going to guess the international border collie association. AKA MAH and her cronies. Esp with your location. He's a real cutie -
It's one of the reasons my husband gets so upset when we have puppies. You always have one complainer and once they can get out of the box or pen they tend to want to poop away. Meaning that you get 4 or 5 piles in the kitchen instead of the laundry room on the bedding. People told me that both of my litters were pretty trained when they went home. They were much better when I could run directly outside for them to potty.

We had alot of trouble with dogs being allergic to a certain kind of glue. Once we stopped using Dr Bob in Montrose we haven't had a single problem. We were never able to get to the bottom of what he used that made them red and itchy. It gets better. We do 100's a year and I can only think of a handful of infections and the dogs were done in another state first.

Thanks for the info. I hope things pick up for our larger food banks we are getting it in small amts and making it up in snacks. We got the rolls and such that can be fed straight as food. I just wish we could score a deal like a few years ago when Canidae was pushing lamb and rice it was 17 dollars a 40lb bag I bought everything they had in stock 5 times over. Our dogs look so much better even during the short time they are with us due to the good food switch.

We are currently feeding premium edge because believe it or not on sale it was cheaper than some of the cheaper brands at Pet supplies plus. Things are bad locally as far as food being available to rescues. Ejano How do you find pricing at tractor supply for food? We will be getting one locally soon. It is something we can use as certain supplies are always a hit and miss to buy in our area. agways have scaled back really far.

Does ABCA banning do any good?

I noticed the red dog has another banned breeder in his backround so the apple doesn't fall far from that tree. -
Familial Structure and our dogs
Dal & Mad's Mom replied to sweet_ceana's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
I understand that it has to do with respect of who has been there longer. (I heard that here) In my house Genie came in when Dal was nearly 2 and Maddie 1 and of course sugar came with her right away. My guess as to why Genie and maddie cant really establish a clear leader is due to Maddies age when Genie came as an adult. Like I said they all seem to defer to Dally. It has to be true as Pep was so old and had cancer when the rescue started yet he was given a top status. Penny reinforced his status as leader. She would often do all the disipline in his place and keep him in the backround. Frodo and Penny came in together pre rescue and now they are the top dogs. I should also add interestingly the only dog that has ever come in and seriously challenged the friends of Pep order was The red dog with all the knots on her back from swaffords. She came in with such a power air about her and she took one look at Penny and tried to make a change. -
Familial Structure and our dogs
Dal & Mad's Mom replied to sweet_ceana's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
At my home it's hard to detect a Head dog. Only 3 of my dogs can play together at one time. Genie and Maddie cannot play together and infact frequently Maddie makes Gene whine. Otherwise they do everything in a certain order Dally is always first, Genie is next, Sugar 3rd and Maddie takes the rear. Sugar can always eat with Genie and Maddie. At The rescue Pep was always the Boss with Penny as his female counterpart. When he passed Frodo took over and there are occasional Attempts at take overs from Emma and Rhye. They never win. Oddly enough when a new dog arrives they never approach Penny or Frodo with Bad behavior. The most recent example I can give is yesterday. A new dog arrived he was reputed to be a problem at the shelter threatening other dogs and general agressive behavior. For some reason he decided that Old Kim was the dog to Start with (he got a butt whiping). My thought was that he was lucky as Rhye or Frodo would not have stopped at a pin and a growl with a good amt of shaming. Today I heard he's a happy playing dog again. There has to be some communication of the order of things. -
All my life I've had a carpet eater. Currently it's Dal who fills his mouth walks into the dining room and eats.

Those are really cute. I tried to look them up but, misspelled them and come up with fat heads that scare dogs.lol

We have no toy Motherers but, at the rescue we have a Recent mom who will allow any puppy to share her bed. Mom said she also spent an hour washing her 2 babies left from her litter. (all adopted). She is supposed to have an adopter after the holiday. We will msis her as she was a great dog to have around. Most of my dogs and moms adopted dogs would best be described as mean to puppies.lol

I thought my dogs were well socialized
Dal & Mad's Mom replied to Dal & Mad's Mom's topic in General Border Collie Discussion
I think I was surprised as this is the dog I hand raised and thought she was bomb proof. Dally and Maddie were more than happy to keep them entertained and cleaned up after. Genie was more than happy to take treats. She prefers kids to adults any day. esp men. I think I tend to forget that even though she looks like a lumbering giant. She does have feelings. -
My 5 and 6 year old Niece and Nephew are sleeping over. I always think that my dogs are so well socialized. I'm wrong. Sugar took one look at my tiny 5 year old dog loving Nephew and had a mini heart attack. She cowered on the floor and refused to come within 3 feet of him even if all the other dogs were willing to come inside and be super happy cookie eating campers. I guess I have some work to do with Sugar.

We have severely malnutritioned Border collie puppies at Friends of Pep Right now. They were turned in as a full litter that didnt sell from a mill in Ky. The first 3 are normal size and althought they were thin suffered little in the way of malnutrition issues. The next 4 have diminished cartlidge and no dental enamel from the malnutrition. The smallest female has similar walking stance she seems to be improving over time but, it lent her to have the nick name floppy. They are all nearing 6 months or more but, are the size of shelties in a purebred look. We've been told they will catch up slowly and they are very sweet but, most people are afraid of their future issues. This is one of the girls we still Have I think she was returned after they thought about her malnutrition issues and if they could deal with problems if needed down the road
