  1. Miz, We are sending all the good vibes we can your way. Give Boy a kiss and a pat from us and know that we are thinking of you all.
  2. I posted a couple of not too good Buddy pictures in the gallery.
  3. We use 50 foot lead and a long runner rope around two trees. I put harnesses on the dogs that way the leads don't get tangled around their legs. We slip the leads through the runner rope and this allows them the freedom to walk all over camp and not even realize they are leashed up.
  4. Welcome and Roxie is very cute~
  5. We have a large fenced dog yard at the new place, now that we have extended it out to meet up with the side garage entrance. I put in two dog doors, one into the garage from the yard and one from the garage into the house. The dogs are free to come and go from the house to the yard as they please. But mostly when we aren't home they just chill out and nap. We leave the toy box out and come home to them spread all over the house. Briar is my outside sun soaker. She loves to lay in the yard and watch the goings on. Rob will run out to potty then he's right back in and Buddy seems to be following his lead. Poor old man spent his whole life outside, he is kinda diggin' this inside stuff.
  6. I am so glad Abbie's through this okay. Our Briar swallowed a treble hook, (three barbs and supposedly the better hook to have in this situation, because they don't get hung up as easy) while we were camping two years ago. We raced down the mountain to a vet who xrayed and confirmed it was in her tummy. Being a mountain vet he had seen this a lot. Told us to bulk her up with hamburger and rice and start carrying rubber gloves. I was ready to pack up and go home but he gave us his home number and assured us she would pass it. SHE DID. I am so sorry Abbie had to go through surgery and so very glad she is okay!
  7. I love these first time stories, they take me back to Rob and me our first time out. Ain't it a kick watching her do what she was meant too. Look out you'll both get hooked real fast! Way to go Kessie!!
  8. I wish I had never taught Rob to open the fridge. (It is not cute) I wish I had known all the things I have learned here on the boards before we adopted. (But thanks, guys, you have all really helped make my dogs happy, confident and content!) I wish I had started training on sheep with Rob sooner than we did. I wish Briar would forget there are such things as balls and frisbees. I wish Rob and Briar and Buddy could stay the way they are right now and when the time comes we could all go to the bridge together, because I can't imagine my life without them.
  9. Is Maggie more reactive when she is on lead? My Rob was t-boned and jumped by a Chow when on a leash. Now, this is the only time he is reactive with strange dogs, off leash he meets and greets like everyone is his best pal. Being that you let her off lead, maybe she feels more in control of her destiny. I know that it is that way with Rob Dog.
  10. Get well soon Cheyenne and all our best wishes to you!
  11. They all did great alone while we were at work yesterday, no accidents in the house, no blood and guts and no dead cats, I would call that a good day. Barb, Ryan loves the new place as he has his own studio apartment over the garage. We always make sure to settle his room first, with the autism changes are hard, but he has done great! He really likes Buddy and Buddy is the only one allowed in Ryan's room. I too am hoping the lumps are "old lady lumps." Thanks all and I will get a picture of him, I promise.
  12. Well it was our fifth day in our new home and with our new additional dog, Buddy. Gave the old man a bath and he ran around like a happy crazy dog afterwards. How good to be clean! We had the dog doors installed and after a few practices he had it down with no problem. We are still taking him out to potty every few hours, but today he is inside with Rob and Briar on his own?we will see how he did when we get home. We have had no accidents in the house and he has gone out through the doors on his own to check noises in his yard. I have a feeling he doesn?t see too well in the dark, so we have made an easy path for him and put a sticker on the sliding door to the deck so that he doesn?t run into that again. Poor guy! He and Rob are working things out. Rob is most definitely the leader of the dog pack and will warn Buddy not crowd his personal space and who goes out the door first after mom. Briar just goes with the flow and Buddy seems to really like her company. There is no sign of the dog that bit me last week. Being in the house and being with people instead of sitting alone in a dog run has completely changed him. He walks around all day with a wagging tail and a great big grin on his face. He is an angel in the house calmly following me around and content to lay at my feet when I sit down, which I haven?t done a lot of the last few days of the move. The vet had an emergency last week so we got rescheduled for his checkup. Found a few lumps on him during his bath that I will have her check. Other than that, he is energetic in outside play, he is eating and drinking well and soaking up all the attention. I promise to have a picture soon too!
  13. Sheryl, I had the same issue with Avid when we moved out here from Calif, changing Rob's chip information. They never sent confirmation and charged for the change of address. Briar's is a Home Again. They didn't charge me a dime and updated it on the phone. Now that we just moved into our new home I have to go through the process with Avid again. I am tempted to see if Home Again will register Rob's chip number in their system. Our friend through rescue lost her dog, she finally got him back, but the people that found him called the avid number and avid told them to take the dog to the shelter they had no information. Luckily the dog also had a regular info tag and the called her at home. Avid is TERRIBLE!!
  14. They are both so young I don't think you will have much of an issue. You should see the three I have, all older and set in their ways, walking circles around each other since they were introduced three days ago. It is interesting watching them work on the pack order. Oh PS: Congrats and have a blast!
  15. Two are easier than one and three is even better! One question though, why is the vet trying to SELL you a pup that was left be someone else? Is it just to cover adoption and medical cost for the pup so far?
  16. We could do the 22nd. We have two canopies that we can throw in the van and bring with us. Sounds like a great relaxing time! We are so excited!
  17. We have a pop up and have enjoyed it. But I would give my eye teeth for one of the new hybrids! Mark's right, in wind or rain the PU is a pain to get up and down. In perfect conditions I can haul it and set it up without hubby's help, but otherwise I wouldn't want to try. The hybrids are great because you get the convenience of a trailer and still have that outdoors tent feeling too. Check out some of the camping boards, you can pick up alot of opinions on different makes and models. Let us know what you get!
  18. Thanks everyone! You all made me tear up. He was wonderful last night and we all took a walk down to the lake. He loves water and dived right in! He and Rob are still sizing each other up and I am giving Rob loads of lovin so he doesn't feel slighted. There are times when Rob invites him to play and times when he tells Buddy to get away from his mom. Mostly, it is just grumbles that I put a stop to immediately. They tangled once and that was just after the hamburger wrapper episode. Miz: He broke the skin on both sides of the knuckle and it did hurt like a */!?*. But today it is looking pretty good. It sure didn't take long for it to look nasty after it happened. I will see if I can get him to stand still long enough to snap a picture. I want him to be at least presentable. Right now he is filthy! Buddy is black and white rough coated with white collar and white socks. He has the normal blaze on his face. The eyes are a little droopy with age and his ears don't stand up which makes him look even sadder. He is very active exploring his new inside world. He doesn't seem bothered with any joint pain and bounds around and up the stairs like a young dog. We are off to the vet in the morning so I will give you an update after we see her. Thanks again everyone! I keep you posted.
  19. Thanks Sue, I couldn't let them haul him off and put him down. The funny the thing is it has been his home, he just was never allowed inside it. When I called him in, he stopped at the doorway and just looked at me, after some coaxing he came in, kinda of looked around over his head and then trotted over to me with his tail going a mile a minute. He explored a litte bit then just started following me around and when I stop he plops out of the floor. I have ordered him a nice bloster bed like Robs and Briar's and hope it gets here soon. I was in tears last night talking to hubby, I know Buddy probably won't be around too much longer at 13 he is getting up there, but at least he will retire in comfort.
  20. Hey we will be back from the Cailf college graduation. Just need to check with Rebecca and see if she minds a tent trailer parked there. Rebecca?
  21. The trade out thing sounds like a good way to work through this. But like I said I wasn't rough with him , I think I actually reached down from behind him, so he may have thought was Rob Dog coming from behind. Denise, this is only our second full day with him, so he hasn't even begun to have a chance to know that we are here for all good things. In every other respect he has been a perfect gentlemen. He was very up and very happy last night and that made me feel much better. It was so sad watching him watch his other family hauling their stuff out of the house, while we worked on enlarging the fencing for the dogs. I'm sure he is going to love being in the house, I coaxed him in last night and once he walked around a bit he settled right in and followed me around. Poor old man has lived in a small dog run all his life. He is off to the vet tomorrow for a once over then on to the groomer for a wash and spruce. (He is one DIRTY dog)
  22. Shame on me though...I dropped a hamburger wrapper on the ground and he picked it up. I didn't tell him to drop it, just reached down to take it away from him, he growled and chomped down on my thumb. So we have food aggression. We took Buddy in from the people we bought our home from because they were just going to take him to the shelter or put him down. He is 13 years old (got his records, was told he was 11), border collie. He and Rob have moments of play and moments of looking sideways at each other. They are seperated during the day when there is no supervision at this point. Briar thinks everyone is her best pal so no problem there. Anyway, back to the bite which I feel was mostly my fault...how do I approach this issue with him? I can pick up his food dish (with food in it) with no problem, he takes treats from your hand as gently as a baby. Was this just a dog out of sorts and loving his hamburger wrapper? Please help!!
  23. Darn guys, we were hoping to come and meet y'all. But if it is that week in June my daughter is graduating from college in Calif. If you do it another time, Becca if we pull our tent trailer out is that okay?
  24. Yes the spring battle of the flying fur has begun. We brush and vacuum daily. The brushings I throw out to the birds. They love border collie hair for nesting! Remember no outfit is complete without dog hair!
