  1. I saw a guy here the other day with a puppy in the back. It was hanging over the side. It couldn't have been 4 mos. I cringed.
  2. Reckless like to lay down better too. I don't mind if it is a stay. Sits are harder to hold for a longer time, and are not very comfortable. You should have seen his sit when he was a puppy. Back legs went everywhere, he was very lazy about it.
  3. I am going through that with Reck also. I don't think their is such a thing as 100% positive training. There are some good things to learn from Ceasar. "Calm and Assertive energy" is the key. You have combine the two. My trainer uses pinch collars and teaches you how to use them. I have to say. Reck responds totally different. After a couple of minutes he learned that what behavior I was looking for. Now I don't have to correct him near as much. Keep in mind he is also in that teenage stage.
  4. I love the guy. I think he is as close as a person can get to being a dog. Most people don't get how important body language is with dogs. Agility taught me that more than anything. Most people that he is "training" have alot of the same problems with their family as they do their dogs. They are not "alpha" people. Humans take just as much advantage of them as their dogs do. He cracks me up when he starts immitating the dogs body language.
  5. Hi everyone, We are having problems with come command. Whenever Reck is off lead he runs in a straight line away from me, and then I have to trick him to catch him. He is 8 mos. old. He knows the command, he just won't do it off lead. I've tried hiding from him, playing with him, teasing him, using treats. He doesn't respond. Just keeps going. I'm worried that something will happen to him so I don't let him off lead. I hope this is a stage. We are training for agility, and he has to respond to this command most of all. More importantly, I don't like keeping my dogs on a lead when it is possible for them to be off. Any help appreciated. Thanks!
  6. My opinion as humble as it is, is that what makes a BC is not whether or not it herds, but the ability to herd. What makes BC's the best agility, flyball, herding, or even search dogs? It is all the same things that make a good herding dog. The exceptional working ability, and intellegence. My mom's BC is a SAR dog. She does not herd, but she can run circles around other breeds in the search field. She solves problems herself that most handlers have to with their dogs. Give her 30 min, and she is ready to go again. While all the other dogs are done for the day. Is this not what turned everybody in the sport world on the the BC in the first place? Why breed out what makes them good at everything? Then you have just another dog.
  7. When I was looking for a puppy one breeder told me that BC shouldn't take Heartgard because of the Ivomec. It is bad for BC's only for some reason. Has anyone heard of this. I am getting ready to give Reckless his next treatment and the vet gave me a free "puppy pack" that includes one app of front line and one Heartgard. Our Aussie is on Interceptor, and I use Bio Spot for fleas. Frontline has never worked for me, and Advangate made my Labs hair fall out. I don't want to give it to him if he shouldn't have it. Any advice appreciated.
  8. She is so pretty. She is bigger that Reckless. He only wieghed 7 lbs at the vet Sat. She has a sweet face.
  9. You can also check out www.kingstonkennelsllc.com. That is where we started. We love it. Private classes, and great outside area.
  10. The best place I know to find out is www.cleanrun.com. There are alot coming up in Alpharetta, and some in Gainesville. We will be going to some although our guys are not old enough to start yet. You can aslo look on the NADAC and USDAA websites. I don't have the addresses. They should come up if you do a search. Good luck!
  11. Hi. I'm new. I got my first BC 2 wks ago. His name is Reckless, and he is now 9 weeks old. I previously had a Lab, but had to put him down. We would have gone to our first agility trial next month. I am looking foward to Reck getting old enough to start training. My family has had BCs. My mom's Fayva is a mission ready SAR dog. I've got my hands full already. Any puppy games appreciated. I'm always looking for ideas.
