  1. Kelpiegirl and Billsmom Thanks for your reply and thoughts, watching him hurting and not knowing how bad or type of injury he has was bothering me to much having gone thru 4 knee surgeries myself. So I went back and waited until he could be seen, the staff seemed to understand that I was more worried then Pegasus, he does not like going to the vets. The vet and his assistant made sure I knew they rather I come in to get him checked out to be safe since he has had problems in his legs after being attacked in the spring by a great dane. But the vet said he could not find any problem so he thinks Pegasus brused his paw and to keep him quiet for at least 10 days and if it does not seem to be getting better in 7 or 8 days to bring him back in. Again Thanks Tom and Pegasus
  2. This subject continues to mess with me, my vet and the doctor that did Pegasus's ocd surgery told me I should wait until Pegasus is 2 years old so his growth plates are closed it's only around 6 weeks away now so if I'm still around I'll have it done but I understand about the marking it get old fast. Best of luck and let us know how it goes. Happy New Year to all Tom and Pegasus
  3. Yesterday morning during Pegasus's workout after he jumped up to catch a ball and on his way down his rear leg/paw came down on top of another ball, right off he held his leg/paw up like he hurt it. Now his paw was only 10 to 12 inches off the ground at most before coming down with one paw landing normally on the ground while the other came down landing on top a tennis ball. I stopped his workout right then we were really done with the workout and in play/fun time anyway. Well by the time we got home about an half hour or so he was showing almost no sign of it but I made him take it easy anyway even though he was not happy about it. Then around 6:30 after his meal since he was showing no signs of hurting I took him for about a mile walk and short visit with my brothers family who he goes crazy to see and then back home. About an hour after being home he would not use that leg,he kept it up not wanting to use it at all, it was easy to see that not being able to use it or wanting to use it was bothering him. This morning not much of a change untill I took him in to see his Vet he started useing it alittle. We did not get to see the Vet due to an earlier emergency that came in that needed surgery. But now that were home he is holding his leg/paw up again. I don't know if I should go some where else or wait to see if it gets better or next tuesday when my vet will be able to see him. Any thoughts Tom and Pegasus
  4. I know with that many dogs more then one person had to be involved in running an operation of that size. It would be nice when and if they get caught that they get serverd up to the dogs as a play / chew toy, it also should be filmed and some how shown to people to let them know what could be done to them if they want to live that type of life. Tom and Pegasus
  5. I waited 25 years to get a dog after having to give up two dogs when I moved to fl. in 1980 because I coulden't afford to rent a place that allowed dogs when I was transferd here. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, I interview people for a month , check out were they lived and even went back on my first vacation to check on the dogs. To many people in Fl. don't understand a pet needs caring for its not something that you can put aside after the cuteness wares off. I don't know if people every were are like this but I've seen to many of then in florida. Tom and Pegasus
  6. Any new info on pup, I've been watching the news and not a word about it, also nothing in the news paper. I understand I live on the east coast north of Palm Beach but you would think a stoy like this would be picked up at least in Florida. Tom and Pegasus
  7. I want to start by saying thank you to all of you for taking the time to help me. Julie I will do the search, Cheri I understand I will never get all the hair up and if it was not for having my dad living with me I probably would not worry as much about it., Jack & Co. I use a cordless swiffer vac and mop for getting the hair and sand off the tile floor, it seems to work ok for light cleaning the only promblem the charge does not last to long, Hector I get the CR magazine but could not find the Oct. 05 issue, Madison I tried looking through the lnternet but I'm not to computer savvy so again thank you for your help. Tom and Pegasus
  8. I've read a number of post about problems with peoples BCs shedding, I'm not complaining about that but would anyone have some advice on the best vacuum for removing the hair from the carpet. My 3 year old kenmore upright that cost around 300.00 did not last through Pegasus's first year and a half, so if anyone has any advice I could use it, useing a lint brush has gotten old fast, with about 1200 sq. ft. of carpet. 9. I've been wanting to have Pegasus neuter for a while but was told I should wait until the growth plates close, Pegasus will be 18 months old at the end of July. I saw the vet on Tuesday and ask about it and was told the growth plates are not closed untill he gets 2 years old. Any thoughts on this. Tom and Pegasus
  10. Ever since Pegasus was attacked in April and beat up during our walk, once I turn off the light after getting in to bed he will bring one of his bones in and lay on my stomach then roll or push up on to my chest, like to say I'll give it to you to let me stay. He has always been allowed in the bed to nap or rest my room is one of his safe places to go if needed. I would rather not have his bones in the bed but he has been through so much, that until he is no longer hurting in mind and in body I'll have to live with it. Tom and Pegasus
  11. Melly I live on the Treasure Coast in Port St. Lucie Fl. and I understand what you and your pups are going through due to the heat an humidity. Pegasus my BC who will be 18 months old on the 29th of July extremely dislikes the heat and humidity of Florida, he also does not like being sprayed with the hose but has a blast with certain types of sprinklers. Pegasus did not care for the pool at first other then to stand and bark from the top step until my niece carried him into the pool, he does not use it for swiming other then to get the ball or toy after its been thrown in. Its used more to cool off during his work out, I'll throw the ball any where from 7 to 10 times in a row giving him a treat after each throw except on the last one I'll say cool down and he will run to the pool and wait at the step until I say station up, then he will get on the first two step untill I throw the ball and say okay, then he's off to get the ball and brings it back to the steps where he stands in water an inch or two above his legs and cools off, then when ready he will either bring the ball to me to throw it back in the pool for him or go to the patio door so to go and do another 7 to 10 runs, the number of times depend on how his legs are holding up from when he was attack in April but we try to do 30 to 45 runs in the am and in the pm. This is done at my brothers since he has a in ground pool and more running area. I have a kiddie pool and less running room at my house so it does not work out the same I'll add blocks of ice to cool it down a bit more but I'm not sure if it makes any difference or not, I leave the hose going making a little curnet in the pool. I'm also trying to find out about having his coat cut the lenth of a smooth BC thinking that might help him stay a little cooler but I would need to know it is not going to screw up his coat first, hope to remember to ask the vet next week when I bring him in to check out his leg and back from the attack back in April. If I'm able to find some ways of beating the Florida heat I'll post them. Tom and Pegasus
  12. When Pegasus was around 5 or 6 months old he had to have surgery for OCD, while I was trying to learn about OCD and how he got it, what I might of been doing wrong to cause it, I talked to a lot of vets, to trainers that did not work with BCs, to a lot of people. And most said to stay away from puppy food even a couple of vets that sold dog food out of their office, I was told a number of times that Pegasus's OCD could of been caused by feeding puppy food as well as others things. I myself would say not to feed puppy food but I would also say what I know about BCs would not fill a thimble to most of the BC owners on this board. Watching your pup cry in pain from OCD or any reason you do not want see. Tom and Pegasus
  13. I understand how you feel but since Scampi is going to be with family he should be just fine. During the last weekend of March I left Pegasus at my brother and sister in-laws to see how he would do, because I was planing on going with my dad to my aunt and uncles 50th anniversary. I was told that other then him missing me when he first notice I had left he did okay. My sister inlaw did almost everything with him that I would do, other then the training. She took him for walks maybe not as long as I do but for more of them, she would play fetch, let him swim, etc. I droped him off on a friday at noon and got him sunday evening no problems. Now he was happy to see me when I picked him up. I was not able to to go to the anniversary, I took my dad to the airport this morning to go to it, after Pegasus was injuried when attacked April 13 while out for our walk so I can't say anything about being gone for more then 2 and a half days. So go have some quality time with your kids and when you get back spend a day spoiling Scampi. Enjoy. Tom and Pegasus
  14. I found the thread on Arthtitis/Joint Pain very interesting, I've been dealing with pain management doctors/clinics since 1992, even going to therapy at times 5 days a week for over 7 months straight for a injuried back, they never informed me about carbohydrates and how they could aggravate arthtitis. So I want to say thank you Laura and to everyone else that posted here on this topic, I think Pegasus and myself will benefit from it. Again thanks. Tom and Pegasus
  15. Sorri and Linda I think both of them were great. Tom and Pegasus
