  1. ooh ooh ooh name thread!!!! if he were going to be mine i would call him booga after the kangaroo from the tank girl comics! aussie themed names...... bruce didge boomer(ang) skippy blue red themed names ru moorit rufus solar mars er i ran out of ideas!
  2. aw poor puck, such a shame it popped out again may i post your situation on the other forum i am on? i have posted vague details already in the moderators bit as i am in the process of starting a little puck fundraiser (if that is ok by you?) but i wont post any details there or on the main forum unless i get the go ahead from you we should be able to raise a fairly tidy sum though as whatever we raise will be in £'s and £1 is $1.9 at the moment! bless your heart for helping him hun, and bless you for letting us all help too
  3. let me us know when the paypal account is ready and i will gladly donate some pennies another couple of ideas........ pinched from another forum..... one lady on said forum makes the most wonderful signatures, she made mine. once every couple of months we do a fundraiser for a nominated doggie charity, a bit like our own private ebay. she makes the sigs for a minimum donation of £1 (about $2) to the current charity. lots of people have asked about the signatures, there are lots of talented graphicy peeps on here, and a doglet in need..... i would 'buy' another signature, and i am sure plenty of others would too if 25 people asked for one, that would be $50 straight off! our last fundraiser including our auction (i got some real bargains ) raised just shy of £600 ($1200!!) there are far more people on here..........
  4. though we didnt do any professional training at all, and he was never pretty to watch, i didnt get sheep till tikki was 8, he still learned enough to help me out not pretty like i said, but if i had got some real training for him he would be much better than he is! good luck!
  5. i think if i found a supplier like that i would grab anything and everything they offered that i could afford to buy! with the exception of bare naked bones. scrap/cheap items you may be able to ask them for from that range would be; chicken backs chicken wings (possibly) turkey necks (a big favorite here) turkey backs breast of lamb scrag end of lamb pork neck belly pork any offal sheep/pigs heads (dunno about the regs in the US though, i cant buy sheep's heads here ) and anything nearing the end of its shelf life, better them sell it to you cheap than pay the bone man to take it away it may also pay to ask them how much a whole pig or lamb might cost you. then what you do is find a very large cool box type container, pack it a tightly as you possibly can, and ship the entire lot to me :D
  6. oh hun, i have only just read this thread, and how sad it has turned out to be i hope your dad is ok after his injuries and that you both find comfort after losing jessie, you are in my thoughts xx
  7. my lots favorites are, the rib/neck jobbies from lamb and pigs feet
  8. i give raw bones all the time! pigs feet, breast of lamb, pig/lamb neck and ribs, half chickens etc etc the only bones i dont give often is beef knuckle/marrow bones. these are weight bearing bones and can break dogs teeth, my lot are very sensible on the rare occasion they do get them, but an avid chewer could be looking at tooth damage
  9. me me me me me!!!!! i am in somerset, and would love to hear the dates of any trial! thank you!
  10. i agree with the food grade DE and soapy left to stand in the lather baths! i wont use any chemical on tikki cos of his illness but he also has a flea allergy. i ordered the DE from the US. the 2 methods combined worked a beauty!
  11. could it be a urinary infection? that could account for the odd gait (back pain) and the weird squatting position (burning pee stance).
  12. wow indeed! especially as mog (the ewe in question) had only lambed once before and already had twins of her own. she always had rams though, if i had kept my sheep i would definitely have kept any ewe lambs from her!
  13. just finished reading the replies.... i have smaller hands than a man, but i am not dainty at all and i was fine when it came to assisting that 1 lambing. also here in the uk it is very common to use a commercial ram on shetland ewes to get a bigger finished lamb. they are stalwart mothers, though i personally wouldnt think it would be a good idea to use a commercial ram on a maiden ewe, and i also didnt let my girls breed in their 1st year
  14. my friend breeds shetlands and hers flock, mine were shetland x gotland and they flocked. they were sooooo easy to tame too! i kept mine in with an electric fence which was fine UNLESS a lamb got out, nothing will stop a shetland ewe from following her lamb except a really really good fence. i never had to assist any of my ewes at lambing and the the year i helped my friend with her flock of 80 or so she helped one (i think) and i helped one. when i had to have a ewe put to sleep due to an injury another of my ewes adopted her 3 week old lamb before i even had time to worry about it! the wool is out of this world, the meat the best i have tasted though the joints are small. and the sheepskins tan beautifully! when i get sheep again i will be going for shetlands or balwens
  15. my old lab guzzi once ate...... half a bucket of wall paper paste a bag of mixer biscuit including the bag the raisins my dad had used for wine making (very drunk dog, he was ok though) my dad's entire crop of parsnips that he had forked up and left on the ground to get the frost overnight carrots, though he used to carry the ones i bought him all the way home from the shop before he would eat it. fortunately he didnt eat all this in one day. cast iron stomach or what?
  16. with my 2 bitches i have played safe and waited a month before allowing off lead. however this drives them crazy so i typically take them out to a remote field at around 00.30 - 01.00 when i can be sure there are no other dogs around and let them have a good romp around to burn some energy off. fortunately they are both fully grown now (save for some filling out) so will be getting spayed come may
  17. i dont live where the temperature gets stupid low, but unless the dogs are losing weight i wouldnt worry too much. if i give mine extra when it isnt needed they either turn into blimps overnight or are stupidly hyper the following day if it is cold (by our wussy standards) i will switch the heater on if i am feeling kind the only animals that get extra rations in the cold at my house are the rabbits and rats cos they live in the out house and i always have the window open so they can get fresh air
  18. tikki has a collar charm that his bc mates sent him when they were on their holidays. his says 'smile or i'll poo'
  19. i have let both my bitches get well grown, brighid is coming up for 2 this summer and will be spayed in may. however, i am lucky with regards to the lack of straying romeos near me, and i can walk late and not meet anyone whilst the girls are in season.
  20. oh my gods, i have just phoned the vets to ask how much, then done the conversion into dollars for my 2  squirrel up to 10kg $318.29 (?161.61) brighid 10kg to 20kg $365.05 (?185.37) got 3 months to save up for brighid then squirrels in july
