  1. I might be wrong here but dont you have to pay for the dog you resue and are they not suppose to come to you healthy and cleaned up so I would think they should have the ticks removed before you get him he was at the vets and that could of been done before anything else if they couldnt do it he had them on him when he came to them and they should of looked after the problem as soon as he got there I would question that because that is a health issue
  2. good luck go out and have a great first experience with your dog and think how lucky you are to get that far
  3. thanks for the advice KillerH now finding dog broke sheep I dont think these sheep have seen a dog of any kind the man doesnt own a dog I will keep looking
  4. I know it sounds stupid but when we get animals (barn or house) we make them as bomb proof as we can as we keep our animals until they die. We dont get something and than get rid of it because of a problem we work and work until they become trustworthy but anyways I can get some sheep they are the ones you dont have to shear now should I buy young just weaned or older ones p.s. they seem dumb to me but I dont know anything about sheep if one breed is better than the other Cathy
  5. thank you yes it does help and thankyou for taking the time to answer thanks cathy
  6. Ryder is smart so teaching him new commands on new stuff would be easy In the book I have it says to teach some of the commands before you start on stock his recall is 100% he listens great so now how do I teach him not to look at me Cathy
  7. what site could I go to find out the colour genes etc. is it the same as aussies? and stuff like that thanks
  8. when you are working on stock do you have to use the proper words for the commands or is anything allowed as Ryder is obedience trained do I say the word he doesnt know and than the obedience command and than just keep doing this than drop the obedience command is that the proper way he knows how to down with the word and also with the hand raised I need a good book I have Thomas Longton@Barbara Sykes but their training is with a young dog that knows nothing to start with. Help
  9. our problem is training Ryder on our cows when we go out in the field our cows are like are dogs pets the cows just do what they are suppose to do and all the dogs and cows have been together so the cows dont even move when we go out unless they think its time to go to the barn Ryder does not nip or bark never has when we walk behind them he goes back and forth behind them when we had turkeys he would take them back to the barn and run up beside and than to the back of them and did a great job and they were stupid but I dont know what to buy to train him with
  10. we bought our 1st Ryder from a backyard breeder and I was glad to get one because of the breeders that wont let them go unless you work them on stock you cant convince me Ryder isnt as happy here and looked after as he would be working stock we do have 8 cows but I decided to obedience train him first and I am showing him in agility the pup I am waiting for is from a breeder and is a merle I show obedience and agility and I also have a aussie and they all live in our house with our other dogs boxer, afghan hound and bluetick hound
