  1. I say long tongues add personality - as if BC's need any more of it!
  2. Howdy neighbor! If you're interested in trialing your dogs, I look forward to getting to meet you someday! It is a lot of fun isn't it?!? Good luck with your pup. Again, welcome
  3. Goodness, yet another Rachel . . . Welcome to the boards, Ace is gorgeous!
  4. Mark, Its big enough to fit a sheet of paper (11 1/2" long), though probably not a whole pedigree. Called an hp psc 1315v all in one printer, scanner and copier.
  5. Alright, Mark wins the 'best advice given' today award! I had forgottn about my scanner. Pal: ABC 130389 http://img123.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pal1pedigree4jf.jpg
  6. Ok I hope I did this right. This is all so interesting . . . Here's Pal's, I'll try to make Gyp and Jess' later - http://www.sitstay.com/cgi-bin/pedigree.cgi
  7. I've been doing herding a little over a year now and I have a dog that's coming along quite well, the thing is I'd love to know his lineage farther than his parents. When I look at his pedigree, I honestly don't know what I'm looking at (along with my other two) I've always wished someone knowledge could have a look and tell me all about his background and what lines he's from. Hint hint Julie!
  8. King is a 13 y/o 90lb German Shepherd and is nearing to his last months. We give him Glucosamine, but he is continuing to have serious problems getting up once he's laying down. He's also VERY wobbly in the rear (he commonly will sway side to side and occasionally use the wall to help him walk, poor guy). The one thing I find helpful is something as simple as a towel that I put under his belly to help him get up and outside to go potty. As soon as he can find his balance and I'm sure that he won't fall, I'll release the towel. I found a similar thing called a comfort lift carrier: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Product/Prod...2&N=2001+113678 Give Sparky a big bear hug for me! I hope you get some useful input that can ease his pain.
  9. I can't really remember the last time I used treats, I usually use a toy (for motivation) or nothing. But, then again, I don't do any competitive obedience or the like. I just want to know that the dog is doing so and so command for 'me' and not for the treat. I'm not asking for fancy obedience, just that they comply to what I ask, and do it readily I think that any dog can eventually get weaned off treats, toys, etc with a little work and time. Like Annette said, Jazzy is probably happier with the PR because its you and her. Not you, Jazzy, and the treat. Using PR makes me feel like my dog and I are more of a team, we work together to accomplish that bond, therefore I get a dog that is eager to please. If this makes any sense . . .
  10. Hi everyone! Jess is a little over 25lbs at a year old . . .
  11. You do say some profound things Rebecca, and in such a way that my little brain can undertand too. Out of all the other "I want to breed my dog" posts, my eyes were FINALLY opened with that thread. I always had the mindset of "how can one honestly ruin the breed with ONE litter" or "why can't I breed my BC - it has a great temperment/and herds sheep once a month". I didn't understand that when you breed for 'anything' else but herding instinct (must be a very good herder at that to be bred!), we will wreck the breed that so many people have fell in love with. I *think* I've got everything straightened out now, thanks to that thread. I also found that it is selfish of me to ever think of breeding one of my dogs, when in the back of my mind I know that it has faults....but like many people have said, "it would be wonderful to have 5 more Billy or Sally's running around blah blah etc. etc......." I can be a little slow to catch on to things at times, and it has taken me what......8 months to finally understand the concept of why its wrong to breed a border collie for anything other than its herding ability (that's how long I've been on the boards ).
  12. Many border collies are on the lean side. If he has good muscle tone and appears otherwise healthy I wouldn't worry. I have a 7yr old male also. He is 23in. at the shoulder and weighs 43lbs. To me he looks very under weight, but he isn't b/c that's the way the breed "tends" to be~on the lean side. All BC's are different, but if you want to be sure he doesn't have an internal problem or anything take him to the vet to be sure.....it never hurts and it will stop you from worrying so much. We must see pics of your pretty boy!!
  13. Hmm, then I'm really clueless!lol sorry. Maybe somebody else knows. Hope you figure out what it is soon!
  14. Could it be an ant bite?...they do the same oozing kind of stuff. Gyp got at least 6 bites on her tummy when she was a bit younger and they looked just like pimples, except I knew they were ant bites because I was standing right there when she got bit. Just my opinion, other that that I honestly don't know if that is what the bump is.
  15. Using food or a toy to lure them works great, then fading to a hand signal. It's what I did with Pal anyways. I'll say, "spin around" and at the same time, signal my hand in a clockwise motion. Then to spin the other way I'll say, "spin the other way" and signal my hand in a counter clockwise direction. After a while he learned just the command with no hand signals.
