  1. My dog has lately got into the habit of chasing/chewing his tail. I try to keep him busy so he leaves it alone but I can't be around 24/7 to make sure. The trouble is that he actually chews the fur off the tip of his tail. He must be doing this when he's in his kennel when we're out or at night. He's ten months old so I hope he grows out of it, but I've read that this could turn into compulsive behaviour for my boy. I bought some spray that's supposed to stop this behaviour but to no avail. Does anyone know of a certain substance that I could use that's safe for my dog and I.
  2. We use something called Roll-Over. It's like a big sausage that you can cut up into little bits as needed. Our dog never gets disinterested at training as long as were using it. We tried the kibble that we feed him but he got bored quick.
  3. I do feed my dog IAMS Puppy Food at the moment. It seems to me that the itching and scratching in some dogs would from being allergic to the food. I know how to use the internet and do my own research. It's just that I wanted opinions of Border Collie owners that really care about their pets and this seemed to be a good place to ask. I'm more of a lurker around here but I've can tell that people are passionate about their animals here. Anyway, I've decided to switch when he graduates from puppy food in a couple of months. I may be back to get some more opinions then. Thanks
  4. I'm not looking for opinions from radical groups. I'm looking for hard evidence that this dog food is bad for my dog. All I get is Big Company = Bad and Small Company = Good. I need more than that.
  5. Is there something wrong in particular with IAMS dog food. It seems to have a bad rep around here. Any studies or reviews to back these claims up? It's gotta be better than no name el cheapo stuff.
  6. My Hobbes came from a breeder out of town on a farm who did actually work his dogs. From reading the posts here I guess he'd be labelled an irresponsible backyard breeder but that doesn't mean a thing to my dog. I certainly wouldn't do it the same way again but we didn't know it at the time. I don't believe there's a rescue in my area anyway. There is an animal shelter but we didn't go that route. In the end I guess we sort of "rescued" our Hobbes anyway.
