  1. My Baby turned 14 years old on April 15th. Yes, that's right, she was born on tax day!! She is in good health, but she has a few minor problems. She has cataracts, but can still see quite well, although not quite as good as she could when she was much younger. Does anyone else have a BC with cataracts? Also, she is almost totally deaf. I have seen deafness mentioned in articles about BC's. It doesn't seem to bother her though. She just keeps a closer watch on me to see if I am talking to her or motioning to her with my hands. She can follow hand commands pretty well and I have become quite creative with them. The vet said she heard a slight heart murmer the last time she was in for her routine check-up. This doesn't seem to bother her, either. She still runs, although not as much as she used to, and still plays. Other than these three things, my Baby is still going strong!!
  2. The names I call my BC are as follows: Old Lady - she's 14  Miss Hyper - self explanatory Miss Mouth - must bark at everyone who happens to walk by. Silly Girl and Whirlwind Woman Big Flirt - when she is flirting with her boyfriend, Bud, the 140lb Black and Tan Coon Hound. He's neutered.
  3. I have given my Baby Benadryl on many occasions in the past 14 years. She is highly allergic to flea bites. Even though she never actually has fleas, she seems to get bitten every year and the severe itch begins. The benadryl doesn't make her sleepy at all. I think she is too hyper for anything to make her sleepy, except hours of exercise!!
