  1. I've only got one litter box right now. Kitty arrived home at 2am. But so far it hasn't went on the papers or towel put in the animal carrier with it. I'm attempting to keep it separated from my animals till Monday after the vet visit.
  2. Gave first hot pack treatment at 9am. Guk came off it. The eye is all red and puffed out. Kitten loved the treatment and actually purred the entire time. Since I have my contacts in this morning noticed the other eye has a dot to it like it has been poked by a claw. I'll keep an eye on that. So far it hasn't pottied in the animal carrier on the papers or its towel. It ate half of last nights dry kitty food and drank all the water.
  3. Thanks. Glad to hear mite not possibly lose the eye. Just for the record its a border kitty.
  4. Dh found kitten on road. Problem: kitten has one eye infected, will surely lose eye. Otherwise appears healty, acts normal. Currently protected in pet carrier with food and water, comfortable. Tore into kitten food, was starving, ate good. Will contact vet ASAP, probably won't reach before Mon. Anything else we can do?
  5. Busy time of year! Glad to hear ya'll are fine.
  6. Dixie if the gators in Fl. keep up at this rate, they could be sent to clean up the water ways in Fl. Not to hijack the thread but seems gators are getting bad down there with more humans and water issues.
  7. Warning I've not had my coffee this morning. At first thought "Fire" sounded good till I thought about you hollaring "Fire". Images of mass panic and Firemen came into my head then. The name Wicked comes to mind. I think someone here has one named that. Pita was a name my dh wouldn't let me have. Just in cause you don't know that is computer language for Pain in the ___. I thought it was perfect but Sam turned out to be a good name.
  8. How old is the dog? Is she spayed and up to date on shots? Sam (18 months old) expenses so far 250. breeder 35. dhlpp pup shot 10. bordetella vaccine 13. rabies for 1yr 27.50 heartguard 30.00 vet office visit * 8. neobacimy eye ointment (* vet visit and this med due to cat scratched eye) 35. dhpp pup shot 3.50 interceptor tab 37. Dhlpp 15. 3yr rabies shot 14. dog liscense yr 2005 14. dog liscense yr 2006 27.50 heartguard 15. one dose of frontline ( to remove ticks due to going camping) 105. neuter ( female typically higher to spay) _____________________________ 639.50 That isn't counting dog food, bowls, toys, treats, tie outs, leashes, collars, crate, bedding, grooming ( only done twice), and the occassional broading. Pound fee here is 64. and they come neutered/spayed and with their liscense for the yr. So that price isn't outrageous.
  9. Sorry this is 2 am for me so I hope what I write is clear. Bedtime: First off are they in a crate? If so get a nice thick fleecy blanket or Huge teddy bear ( mite wanna remove the eyes and nose yourself cause they will be removed and you don't want them to eat that or choke). Now keep that next to your body as much as possible ( stinkier the better) put that in with the pups. Sam loved his Teddy and didn't cry once for his litter mates. It will help them keep warm and comfort them like being in a pile of warm pups. I second do searches on the board. There is tons of info here.
  10. My warped offspring LOVED IT! Especially the 3 yr old girl.
  11. Dog eating peaches! LOL And I thought my previous cat eating watermelon was strange.
  12. He snitched 4 slices of wheat bread this morning while I was out rescueing a baby bunny out of Molly's mouth.
  13. I filled Sam's kong ball. He loved it. So they can have cottage cheese. Does this tend to give them the runs or is this one a limited amount? Sam was getting bored by peanut butter in his kong. I had to finish cleaning it out last time.
  14. I think that is one the treats that have been mentioned here. I got some and want to let Sam try it. So how much is too much? Can I put it in the kong and freeze it for a treat? How do you give it to your dogs? Thanks.
  15. Sam sleeps in his crate. As he gets older and gets completely reliable in the house, I figure he will be sleeping with whichever kid he choses.
  16. I call it defleaing. I loved getting my maltese to do it. All I had to do was scratch her back and away she went on whomever was closest. Course the brat got back at me~ she loved to pull my hair.
  17. I worked with Emotional and Behavior Handicapped Middle Schoolers. Yes, I see this kid going that way. But since parents are not intervening, and you have a child his age it is an opportunity to atleast try to fix the problem on your end with him. Let me attempt to explain. The kids I worked with often gave others troubles they didn't give me. Quite frankly, they didn't want other kids to play basketball with me cause they thought that kid would hurt me. As if their stomping on my toes didn't hurt Once I got the toe squashes stopped they were great for me. Let a sub-teacher come in and all HEllo broke loose. My car got vandalized and I was asked if it was possible my kids did it. I could answer without a doubt NOPE. My kids wanted to do some extreme justice if they ever found out who did it. Now,I was fair but firm. 4 yr olds are not the best reasoners. Prim example is the old nose trick. Just telling them you will take their nose and playfully tugging slightly and They really belive you did it. Doesn't matter they can still see it or feel it on their face... YOU TOOK THEIR NOSE. As for the worry you are a phedophile. Do the activity outside in plain view. You don't have to use your house. Sidewalk chalk, bubbles, sprinklers any of this activites can be done outside and usually where one kid is doing this here comes the rest of them. Maybe inlist the other abused neighbors to help supervise or join in with their kids/animals and do activites. Introduce an animal at a time. Basically, I'm saying use Behavior Modification. If this kid was sliding down a rail, I'd have him keep sliding till his britches wore out or I got tired. Can't do that with dog kicking. And since he doesn't belong to you you can't kick him softly to show him how it feels. Now, You mite not be a big threat but don't ever show your fear. Stay calm and non shockable. Example: 2 of my heathens would constantly swing a pencil near my eyes. As the Sand Hills Mental Hospital Instructor told me my blinking was a sign of fear. Now his answer to this behavior was not to blink. I wore glasses or contacts, I was going to blink. MY solution was really simple. Look kid in the eye and say it like I meant it " Go ahead make my day." Key to this is your tone. If you have one of those soft nicey voices, gather up your best hatred dripping voice and use it. Don't expect miracles but be consistent. And for the record sometimes doing all the behavior modification/positive or negative doesn't do a thing for some kids. But given his age and their none watching, he mite have a chance. I had one kid that seemed so sweet till he got past the honeymoon stage. Even his folks had no clue how to help and they were trying. Another kid got his straight from his family. He was in our program, his sister and his cousin all in the same program. Only kid we didn't have was the baby and it just wasn't in school yet. Here is an idea. Get with neighbors and see if anyone would be interested in maybe asking the K-9 unit to show there dogs and explain what they do. Hint most of those folk would love the opportunity to let kids know about their jobs etc. Even a DARE program mite be willing to come with dogs. You never know kid could try his kick trick and get someone else with connects on parents case. Or if really lucky the right switch goes off in his little head and he learns hwo to be with animals. Regardless of if you try any of the above suggestions. Document and make the calls.
  18. I hope you reported the soda thru the window to the police. Here is what I've read so far. Kid abusive to animals. Lack of respect for and challenges authority ( women execpt grandma). Not to mention his behavior towards siblings. Bully/aggressive to other children. Unfortunately, this problem can only get worse as he gets older unless someone steps up to the plate. Here is an idea. Invite the child over for a play date. Show him a good time and how he is to behave ( explain your rules before he hits the door). Make sure it it fun stuff ya'll are doing. When he misbehaves, he must go home. If need be take him by hand and drag him home. He can not come back till says sorry and agrees to follow the rules. He is on the young side so you will have to remind him. While there at your house, explain animals and empathy towards them ( kicking hurts you and it hurts them, critter just wants love and to be able to love you). I would not do extended times maybe an hour for starters and build from there. Good example, get out big paper and some washable markers or paint and have a paint party maybe a snack. This will help him learn how to play right with your son and the dog. Since the parents are pretty much letting him run wild now, I doubt they will object to a little positive enrichment activites over at your house without them. Caution thou they may want him to stay. As a side note I would still document his behavior with the Animal Control. They may have a cruelty divison just for this set up.
