  1. It looks like I waited to long to put Max on the agility list. So now I am looking for ideas to keep him busy and burn some energy. I tried flyball but he hates to bring stuff back -- like he runs to get it then drops it. All Max wants to do is run, he loves to chase behind my son but with his current obedience problems I don't want him around kids for fear that his herding instinct will kick in. Any ideas I mean we do walk about an hour a day. 15 in the morning 45 when I get home from work and 15 before we go to bed. But it seems like that is no where near enough so any games or ideas??
  2. Thanks everyone, I guess I will continue doing what I have been doing which is back to basics!! I was really starting to think he was slowly but surely loosing his mind
  3. My oldest dog who is now 16 hates kids period !! Reason being as a puppy my little brothers would torment him when we where not looking. I was slow to this and would then scold the dog when he would growl. So to make a long story short one day he bit them both back to back and I punished both my brothers and the dog. So this is what I did seems almost to easy I never leave any child alone with my dogs!! My puppies are great my old man is great but kids are nosey and often sneaky and that is ok too because they are kids. So when I leave the room and we have company the dogs come too. If I suspect that one of them is not in the mood to deal with other people he stays in the kennel or in my room and amazingly enough sometimes they go on their own just to get a break. Since then I have not had any bitting problems. Good Luck!!
  4. My dog Max is rather quickly loosing his mind. We have been doing obedience with him since he was like 3 months. He had gotten to the point where he could be off leash and would respond with no problem. He turned one year on Sunday and it seems now I have to say his name over and over to get him to respond. I find all of this so odd because his litter mate Ty has been doing just fine and actually better his commands are getting much sharper. But Max is like going nuts. Is this just a phase or what?? Any help would be great!! Oh one more thing I have been going back to basics with him like 2 min stays making him stay on leash all the time even when he plays frisbee ( well it drags but it is like 20 feet). Oh yes he has taken to growling at moving objects ( I use remote control cars or balls to distract them during their stays). Any help would be great!!
  5. Wow That seems major I think the idea about the behaviorist is a great one!! My puppies used to mess in their crates but I found out it was kind of my fault I would wash them down with amonnia(I know I spelled it wrong forgive me. At any rate there is a scent in that that makes dogs more likely to go so I switched to a kennel cleaner and WHAMO they stopped no problem. Also does your dog have a job?? I know it sounds silly but each nite before we go to bed I walk them really short like 10 minutes so that they can go and when we come in I make them put away their toys. For instance I will say "Ty ball box" then "Max bone box" -- and they will do it and I get in my bed and they find a spot. When I forget they do remind me regardless of the hour. Also they have other outlets like flyball and agility.
  6. Ok I am not like the expert and I am still learning stuff. But my youngets puppy is also scared of everything and currently we are in intermediate obediance where he is learning basic agility.ANYWAY he is incredibly shy. So in my class we come early and I socialize him there. It has helped ALOT. I think in part b/c all of the dogs are trained so if they get aggressive the trainer is there to nip it in the bud. By the way he hates agility he whimpers each time he has to walk the plank. And he tries to go under the tire (most days it is comical) My saving grace is that he loves his frisbee and his tennis ball so I think we will do fly ball and frisbee. AT any rate just be really patient and take her to only "safe" places. Good luck
  7. Thanks so much! I had tried the yellow pages but did not see anything for clubs So I tried that website page and found a two that are close to me!! And I think I will try to go to Westminister. Thanks a Bunch my pups will love you for it
  8. I am searching for places in the MD/VA area that has flyball and agility classes. My dogs are almost a year and I wanted to really get them started but I want to train them the right way
