  1. Natalie I have had GSD's for the last 50 years-yep I'm old. Several have had hip problems. With Tico, our current rescue GSD we have found that the Synovial G-3 helps him much more than the straight glucosamine and chondroitin. I mentioned this to my vet and she said other people have has similar results -the added MSM,fatty acids, antioxidents, etc seems to make a real difference. Another friend has found that the Adequan injections to be very effectgive with thier dog. I think there is a thread on this in the Health and Genetics section. I think I will try this, if the Synovial G3 stops being effective. Another frend had very small gold beads injected in her dog. He was diagnosed with HD as a young dog and is now 12+ and has just started showing stiffness and soreness. She found a vet in Indiana that used this procedure. Good luck. Donna
  2. What about disassmebling the jump and try getting him used to the separate pieces.- a single up right, a pole on the ground., etc. Maybe get some jump pieces to have at home. Perhaps with time you can slowly reassemble the jump. Just a thought. Donna
  3. Because of this thread I ordered Synovi G3 for our rescue GSD, who has had more than his share of orthopedic misadventures. The latest was with the manure spreader which resulted in a messed up hock joint and surgery. He has been on glucosamine supplements for several months. I think the Synovi G3 is already showing results. He is moving better than he has for a long time(he also has some hip dysplasia). Thanks for this information. Donna
  4. Patricia McConnell at Dog's Best Friend in Black Earth, WI may be the closest behaviorist.. Black Earth is about 20 miles west of Madison, so if you were on the northwest side of chicago it wouldn't be too horrible a distance. Patricia is a PhD, not a DVM. She also has 3 border collies, so is familiar with the breed. I know she has a website-I think a Google search would bring it up. Good luck. Donna
  5. Hi Tom Go to the Great Lakes Border Collie site(http://www.greatlakesbcrescue.org/). Read the story of Peaches under available dogs. The person fostering her wrote extensively about the whole process of birthing and raising the puppies. Also, I think Jennifer has posted on this board about her recent experience with a rescue with an unknwn pregnancy. Perhaps she will comment. Donna
  6. Hi I would go back to your own vet that sent you to the specialist and tell her what happened. At the vary least she could warn future referrals of the costs and she may also start recommending other alternatives. Also so glad things worked out for Tam Donna
