  1. Ah, that explains it! Yes, we also switched recently, 3 from Science and 2 from Wellness to Canidae. One of the dogs that had been on Science had an amazing improvement in her coat, the others had nice coats to begin with. I did notice a couple of them "tooting". It actually startles my female when she does that . I saw her jump onto a chair one day and she tooted as she did. She whipped around looking for the offender and when she didn't see one she jumped of off the chair and glared at it accusingly lol! SHE doesn' have gas so it MUST'VE been the chair! Jennifer
  2. I'm hoping to contact Mike or Jan Beeman from Abliene TX. If anyone knows how to contact them or if they are on this list, please email me privately.
  3. I use an ultrasonic trainer every once in awhile, when I need the added umph for things that needs to be "driven home". Some dogs react differently to it and you shouldn't over use it or they start to ignore it after awhile. Works like a charm for most though. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...3&N=2001+113215 Jennifer
  4. I feel like I'm going off topic here but wasn't the term "barbie collie" derived from "show" lines that were coming out of Australia? Jennifer
  5. Ouch, are you saying you can't make a living on the farm anymore? Dang, well there go MY plans... BTW, Jeff City (state cap) is a little over an hr away from Stover. Jennifer KCMO

  7. We currently have a registered male in rescue that is epileptic. We'd be happy to put him in both studies but can't guarantee that future owner would continue (IF we find him one that is...).
  8. AMEN BILL! Only thing I have to add is those of you breeding for sport, take a year (or 10) off and volunteer for a rescue group.
  9. Good to know Elanie and I think you're right, it is not a link. Looks like the only registry that has a direct link is AKC...imagine that. Thanks for setting me straight! Jennifer
  10. I find it very interesting that the Hunte Corporation (www.thehuntecorporation.com) has ABCA listed on their registry links page. Having created and maintained a website, it is my understanding that permission is needed (maybe not required) to link to someone elses website. I would think a large corporation like Hunte, would be careful not to list those that they didn?t have permission from but I dunno?I guess I?m asking? If ABCA gave permission?.WHY? Jennifer
  11. I was told the bitch and new pups were sold to one individual, maybe Ironhorse knows who that is, we do not. We are getting the last pup today.
  12. Friends of MKBCR have also purchased from the MDA 12 of the Awesome dogs. We can only keep our fingers crossed that the remaining dogs will be kept safe and well taken care of.
  13. Just to make everyone understand, its been mentioned many times but I'll say it again. The Missouri Dept of Agricultures job is to protect ag business within the state. Puppy mills are a very high powered group of business people, just check out http://www.thehuntecorporation.com/ . The Hunte Corp and the MDA are practically joined at the hip, they even link to each other on their websites. So this is about WAY more than "a small amount of money"...way more. Now I don't have any numbers to back this up, but my thinking is that since breed rescue has become popular and more well known, they have begun to educate the public on where exactly those cute little puppies in the mall pet stores actually come from. I don't know if anyone has paid attention but its getting harder and harder to find those pet stores although they do still exist and have tried to make a comeback. So my understanding is that rescue has made a pretty big dent in the puppy mill industry. This would be why they hate us.
  14. Ironhorse, I agree with you when you say that this is a National problem. Why should Missourians be held completely responsible for cleaning up what the rest of the country has helped create. Been to a local petshop in your city lately? If not you should, I'll bet there is a big chance those puppies came from MO. Ironhorse, when you state that these dogs are in a better place now than they were, you may be right, however, what about a week from now or a month or a year from now??? You have to realize that they are selling them (INTACT) right back into the hands of puppy millers, probably some a heck of a lot worse than Shere Thomas. As for people buying dogs from auctions, I too holdheartedly disapprove of what that supports. This is NOT buying from an auction though. This is paying $30 to the state of MO (which I realize isn't much better) which will not even cover the costs of transporting these dogs 2 hrs south of where they were taken from and then boarding them for the past 5/6 days. IOW's no one is making any money off the dogs by selling them this way. They are keeping breeding dogs in MO, THAT is how the money will come in. So by people buying them and stopping THAT we will be doing a good thing. Ironhorse, I'm not sure why you have stopped communicating with MKBCR or why you seem to have so many things you don't want to share...I just hope you know what you're getting yourself into.
  15. Taken from http://www.mda.mo.gov Contact Us: acfa@mda.mo.gov Phone: (573) 751-3076 Fax: (573) 526-2059 We were told the decision on where the dogs go is up to Dr Jerry Eber, the above number is his office. Please do not identify yourself as volunteer or representative of of Mo-Kan BCR if you contact the MDA. Not that anyone would, just need to clarify that (update) We have been informed that the dogs are to be altered before adoption from the MDA.
  16. We would like to update the general public about the situation concerning the dogs that were relinquished by Shere Thomas of "Awesome Border Collies" to the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Our understanding is that the MDA will "utilize resources available to them" (ie auction houses, breeders, shelters, rescue groups) to find placements for the dogs. We have been informed that the MDA is "interviewing individuals and rescue groups" for the "adoption" of the dogs that Ms Thomas relinquished to the state. On Thursday (07-14-05) we were told that we would be "considered" in that process. As of yet, we have not been contacted (or had our phone calls returned). Our belief is that the "individuals" that they speak of will have more consideration that we will. Therefore, if anyone is interested in adopting one of these dogs from the state of MO (you must be a MO resident) you should contact the Department of Ag ASAP.
  17. We have been promised that the dogs will not be euthanized or auctioned off. They are the property of the state, Ms Thomas willingly signed them over to the dept of ag (Missouri). The state is NOT prosecuting because she willingly relinquished the dogs. We have not yet discovered why we have to keep them in the state of MO, we do plan to investigate that further.
  18. Unfortunately the bitch that welped is with the state of MO now, we have none of the dogs as of yet but we're waiting for the call. We're trying to prepare for that so anyone IN MISSOURI that is willing to foster any of these dogs if we do get them, please let me know. We do need you to fill out our online volunteer application before we can give you a dog. We've been told they have to stay in Missouri which really limits our resources so we'll need foster homes in MO!
  19. I'm sorry, I know everyone is very concerned and I really appreciate everyones suggestions and offers to help. I'm just a little on edge after being we've on the phone/computer for virtually the last 24 hrs trying to get things worked out. I know no one would intentionally jeopardize the situation.
  20. Please, at this point no one should be contacting anyone about these dogs. We are trying to work with the state but pressure (especially publicity) will just piss them off and we will loose them all. Please let us handle getting the dogs into rescue, you may jeopardize what we have done so far if anyone else gets involved or tries to put pressure on them.
  21. Unfortunately there has been a bad turn of events. The state of MO has decided that they are going to take the dogs in...period. They have told us to butt out and basically get lost. I am livid but there is nothing I can do at this point but pray they evenutally will give us the dogs...oh we'll have to PAY for the dogs now of course so the state can get their share. Bad situation. At least we know the dogs will get out there today, I have to think positively or I'll loose my temper. BTW, the bitch started whelping last night... We'll keep updating as things change.
  22. We are getting 26 dogs tomorrow. Need anyone interested in fostering PREFERRABLY IN MO because of MO regs, please CONTACT ME PRIVATELY AT EMAIL BELOW, please make subject line PM Assistance. Might also need assistance with transport from Stockton to KC. fitzh20@mokanbcrescue.org
  23. I think it is wise at this point for me not to get specific over the internet. Just suffice it to say that we are not just standing around waiting, we are getting the proper authorities involved and things are moving as quickly as possible. I will give more details when it is appropriate. Thank you all for your concern and offers of assistance. I'm sure if this goes as we expect, we will need all the help we can get.
  24. Just to let everyone know, I have been in phone contact with IronHorse and we are trying to get the ball rolling. We are making contact with the HS of MO and will probably be contacting the county sheriff as well.
  25. Thanks for all the info and advice guys. I have to agree with my vet that this is not a common disease for this part of the country. We have all of our rescues tested and in 4 yrs, this is the first case we've had. Reguardless, we have it now so I need to educate myself. Thanks again for your help. Jennifer MKBCR
