  2. as some may know i inherited a cattle farm and two bcs from my dad. we had to sell offsome land and all the live stock. my question is has anyone had a working dog stop working for a period of time and then start again? we are thinking of cattle again. i have about 45 acres fenced off for cadaver and sar training, but the bcs need to work.
  3. oh my god, i thought we were the only ones who kept stitching them back up!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. should i buy stock in a tennis ball company now?
  7. check out my other post. get that poor dog off kbr before it falls down and really injures itself.my golden was on kbr and it just messed him up. pheno will take 2 months to reach therapeutic levels in its blood.my golden eats 300 mg a day. and he is slightly on the low end so we have lots of room to adjust.is the kbr making your dog act like hes really drunk?walks forward with head always down? walks into doors, walls, cabinets, etc?
  8. i have posted stuff on this site before so if you search for sar dogs youll find it
  9. i am the proud pet of a retired sar golden named shemp. shemp was at ground zero in 01.he was 29 mos old. upon returning home he started to have severe grand mal seizures.he has seen 15 vets .all agree on one thing. he has epilepsy.noe can say what causes this and none can say if his time in ny was a contributing factor. he siezes about every 3-4 wks.when he seizes he has about 10 a day for 2-3 days then is back to "normal" he eats 300 mg of pheno a day.he has regular checkups every 60 days to insure that the pheno levels in his blood are at a therapeutic level.be prepared to have this routine.he is a retired sgt for the chicago pd.his pals (2 borders,a sheltie/coyote mix and a st bernard) will usually let me know a few hrs before when they are coming.your vet will tell you that they dont know what causes epilepsy. its aood idea to log every seizure in a log book.this will also help your vet gauge how and when it is time to increase meds.i log date, time, activity @time of seizure, and length of seizure. bob
  10. heres a suggestion; dont let katz near your dog.as he clearly has no knoledge on how to rectify or modify behavior issues with ANY dog he "owns"
  11. border times two but he lets me know when someone is two miles from the front door.ill post some pics of all the pack soon as i am actually going to buy a digital .......finally
  12. i am currently owned by a coyote/border mix who is a great guy.he howls alot though
  13. its been a while since ive posted but i had to share this.i now know of 6 sar dogs who were in ny on 9/11 that have died of cancer in the last 6 months. my golden shemp, has large tumors on his hips and shoulders. he was there too.please remember these brave and skilled dogs in your thoughts as you interact with your dogs today.we are currently turning 8 acres of our farm into a cadaver dog training facility.this will allow the training of future generations of sar dogs an opportunity to develop their skills as sar dogs.wish us all luck. bob
  14. i e-mailed this goof about a yr ago and told him to try goldfish.then,i proceded to send him a list of every fish breeder with a website in n. america.he responded by telling me i love my bc,s more than people...............yeah and?
  15. the pups 6 mos old and weighs 61 lbs. she is tight with shakespeare. hes the nervous bc.but lately shes getting the upper hand due to her size.a side note to all seizure plagued dogs...vitimin b-12 @adult human dosage seems to give shemp a little more"function".
  16. i have found my way back to the boards.i like what you guys have done with the place!!!! doing mucho bonding with the bc's.trying to keep shemp away from the bridge.hes got slight brain damage from the seizures that have effected his coordination.we do however now have a fifth pup.i know we're nuts. she is a 6 mo old st bernard named sofia.as soon as i figure out how to post pics ill put them in where they belong.hope everyone is healthy wealthy and wise.oh yea,we sold 320 acres to the local school district for a new school. so now i can retire from everything.farms in my area are quickly turning into sub-divisions. all those yrs that the farmers struggled to make ends meet is paying off...literally.
  17. i take the boys when obedience classes are being held.this way i can shop while the pack herds the puppies into a corner of the pen.then watch the amazed instructor stare as i call them to my feet. all 4 of them.(no leeshes)
  18. today i met up with an old friend who had got a st. bernard puppy from another friend .he didnt want it and was going to send it to the shelter.so guess what i did??????
