  1. The clinic is now full, but there are still a few lessons slots available. Those wishing to attend the clinic, I can put you on a wait list. Thanks!
  2. A wonderful opportunity to work one on one with International Supreme Champion & 12 time US Finals Champion, Alasdair MacRae and his wife, Patricia, 2012 National Finals Champion. In addition to the clinic work, the MacRae’s are often able to provide measurable, goal driven exercises that you can replicate at home. The 2 day clinic will cost $290 per dog and $60/day for auditors. Lunch will be provided and all levels are welcome. Private lessons will also be available on December 3 & 4th at $75 per half hour. Please email me at pastorshill@netzero.net for entry form
  3. I just spoke to Corena and she has two good leads for Rue (both working homes) and Joe has been adopted by a working home! They also have a Pyr they are trying to find a home for...6 - 7 year old neutered male, great guardian, but aloof with people.
  4. Thank you for alerting me to this post Robin! The owner bought Rue from David Henry as a puppy. She is a McCloud daughter. Let me see what I can do as well. Christine
  5. Some of my all time favorite photographs are from the Bluegrass Classic Sheepdog Trial… dogs working the fresh Suffolk lambs on the beautiful green fields in Lexington, KY at one of our country’s most prestigious competitions. I thought many of you agree and would like photographs of your dog(s) as a special memory from this year’s Bluegrass. I will be available Wednesday, May 16th through Friday, May 18th to take photos of your dogs, and am waiving my normal sitting fee. There is no obligation to you unless you decide to order prints. To view some of my work, please visit this site http://www.pbase.com/pastorshill/trials I will be available Saturday for a private viewing of your photos between 10am -1pm, at your convenience. At that time, you can place an order if you choose. 4x6's are $10, 5x7's are $15.00 and 8x10's are $20.00. Photos will be mailed to you by May 31, 2012. I can also do web images for $10.00. Gayle Richardson at Coppar Creek Designs creates beautiful tiles with my web images. These can be used for decoration, hot plates, coasters, etc. If anyone is interested, please email me privately to inform me of your class, dog name(s) and day(s) you will be competing. As there are two fields running simultaneously, I may not be able to get everyone in, but will do my best. Thank you, Christine Koval pastorshill@netzero.net
  6. I am still getting the same threat messages as Sue posted. How do I stop getting Norton to stop working off a cache?
  7. I got the same message and it also said 298 threats.... and I have not logged in for months.
  8. Congrats you guys! How is the happy family doing today?
  9. Water Cress Farm SDT Limestone, TN October 23 – 25, 2009 The beautiful Appalachians and the Great Smoky Mountains glimmered with fall color at Jan Thompson’s Water Cress Farm in southeastern Tennessee from October 23 – 25. Nestled in among all the splendor is Jan’s gorgeous farm where mountain views surrounded us in every direction. Due to an excessive amount of rain this summer there was still hay on the trial field Thursday afternoon. Things went like clockwork getting it off. Vergil Holland followed the mower picking up the round bales. Behind him were Dan King, Dal Kratzer, and Mike Hanley setting the course. Moral of story is to hire a judge who is also a farmer. Thanks, Vergil. Friday there was a steady drizzle and it was a bit muggy, but the temperatures dropped to a chilly drizzle on Saturday. The bonus was as the trial ended each day, the sun peeked through the clouds and lit up bright stripes of gold, yellow and red on the horizon. Sunday’s weather was perfect sunny skies and temps in the upper 60’s. Dan King, as course director for his second year, should be commended for handling everything with precision and keeping the whole trial running smoothly. The very healthy and fit Katahdin ewes and spring lambs were challenging for the young dogs on Friday, but were very consistent for both Open days. Thanks to Friday’s set out crew of Jan Thompson, Dan King, Laura Carson and Bob Washer. Julie Poudrier with Twist and her young Pip did an outstanding job setting out all day on Saturday and Sunday, so many thanks to her as well. And thank you to Alice Urquhart who helped when ever and where ever needed. Cy Peterson and Jan worked tirelessly before, during and after the trial. Cy prepared delicious warm lunches for the handlers with homemade soup and chili. Thanks to both of them there was fresh coffee, hot chocolate, teas, muffins and pastries available at the crack of dawn each morning as well as plenty Halloween candy for snacking throughout the day. Steve McCall also brought some hamburgers and coleslaw for Sunday’s lunch. Saturday night’s famous handler’s dinner was again a true treat with Chris Wilson’s fabulous spinach and feta stuffed roast lamb, chicken and dumplings, curried rice, green beans and homemade pies. Chris’ daughter, Sarah, and their friend Kathy also assisted with the meal preparation and serving. Betty Gayle McCall once again made her “travel right to your hips” chocolate caramel pudding dessert that was cleaned up in an instant. They are all very much appreciated by each of us! Vergil did a great job sorting the runs for all three days. A special thanks to Sue Rayburn, Sylvia King and Bobbie Washer for scribing as well. We had a raffle over the weekend to raise money for the 2010 National Finals and thanks to all the people who donated raffle items and purchased tickets. Denise Wall’s generous donation of her stunning “Reflections of Fall Sheep” photo, printed on 11 x 14 canvas and framed was the first item to go. Next was the gorgeous beaded dog collar, handmade in Kenya, which was donated by Peggy Wilkinson. And Donald McCaig donated a signed copy of his book “A Useful Dog”. Thanks also to Cy Peterson, Jan Thompson, Dee Penatzer, Dan King, Barb Klein, Gayle Richardson, Sue Rayburn and others for donating all the other great Border Collie and sheep items! We raised $180. Between this trial and the team jackpot competitions at Lexington, Edgeworth and Montpelier, we have raised a total of $780 for the Finals! Thanks everyone! First place prizes for open each day and for the overall nursery champion was a beautiful gold engraved shepherd’s whistle in a wooden box with a plaque. Prizes were donated by Dave Murrey. This trial is a must for next year’s trial calendar. If not for the great fellowship and the sheepdog trialing, definitely make a trip just for the view. I’d never leave the front porch if I lived there! Photos can be found at http://www.pbase.com/pastorshill/watercress Results: PRO-NOVICE (15 Dogs) 1. Kate Ash Midge 71 2. Marilyn Terpstra Eve 65 2. 10. We will be having a raffle to raise funds for the 2010 Finals at Jan Thompson's Water Cress Farm SDT in Limestone, TN on Oct. 23 - 25. If you have any Border Collie or sheep items you wish to donate, please see me at the trial. And to those of you attending the trial, please buy raffle tickets. We already have some great items to choose from. Thanks!
  11. Attention Open handlers running at Edgeworth, Lexington and WaterCress trials: We will be having a team competition at all three of these trials to raise money for the 2010 VA Finals. How this works is that each handler who wants to participate pays a $15 entry fee (in addition to your trial entry fee) and your name is put into a hat. A team of two handlers is drawn randomly out of the hat (you can not pick your team mate) and each handler's score from their Open run is added together. The team with the highest combined score wins 25% of the pot and the rest of the pot goes to the Finals. Handlers with two dogs running must designate what dog's score will be used, or better yet, you can enter two dogs and be on two teams! If you are interested in being on a team, please see Dan King or myself at any of these three trials. Cash is best! Thanks!
  12. We have been giving Ivomec Oral Sheep Drench (.08%) to our dogs for over 5 years and no adverse effects whatsoever. A lot of top breeders/handlers use it and we have all done a lot of research. We WOULD NOT put our dogs at risk if there were side effects. It is safe at the recommended dosage. I give .5cc to my BC's that are 35 - 50 pounds.
  13. I met my spouse at a dog trial and we enabled eachother. Now he's sold all his BC's and is all into the hunting dogs.... 2 GSP's, 2 Labs and an English Setter. His excitement now is counting down to Sept 1st when goose season starts. He really should have bought stock in Cabela's. He has every camo or blaze orange item you can think of. It makes him happy though, so that's fine.
  14. I just got a flyer in the mail for this product yesterday and was going to post here to also ask if anyone has used it.
  15. Oh poo.... no open? I guess I'll have to get Kaige, Kep and Meg going again? ;-)
  16. Not sure if I'd like that?? Personally I'm a fan of Kate's lemon squares! And what the heck is up with Ted not wanting to flank? Better send him here... forever! You have Sam anyway, you don't need two good ones! ;-)
  17. I've seen the new farm and it is perfect! Congrats Mark and Renee! I can't imagine having to rent a fork lift to get the furniture upstairs???
  18. Hey Denise, For those of us poor souls who don't have the luxury of DSL in our area, will you be putting the collection of videos onto a DVD to sell perhaps? ;-)
  19. These are excellent tools! Thanks for posting them!
  20. Here is a superb video tribute of David's Holly, who left us last August. Denise Wall is the incredibly talented creator of this special memory of Holly. Thank you, Denise, from the bottom of our hearts! http://www.vimeo.com/4877435
  21. Hi Caroline, sorry to change the subject, but how is Mirk doing these days?
  22. Hi Erin, David will run McCloud and I'll be running Rook and Bess. It is on a practice football field... very tiny, but challenging! And then the Scottish Games are fun as well! You should go.
  23. It was a great trial, as usual! The course was tough, the sheep were tough (50% DQ or RT's in the first go and 30% in the second go). I also want to thank all the volunteers... it couldn't be the superb trial it is without all of them! Thanks Becca! I was very proud of Tweed to make it to the Top 20, even though he stuck his paws in his ears and said "la la la la la la la la... I'm not listening!". Daddy Rook also was a good boy and still showed that big heart of his at 10 1/2 years old! Had stupid me not mis-judged the cross drive panels on Saturday, he would have made it in as well. I let the old man down! And Robin and Billy need to be commended as well! She is in "Billy" love and should be quite proud of her boy! WooHoo!
